What application have you recently discovered?

See : https://f-droid.org/en/2024/10/24/twif.html#:~:text=Syncthing%20was,at%20it

In the past many people complained that most of the F-Droid apps are either abandoned or doesn’t work. So currently F-Droid is in the process of cleaning dead/abandoned apps with the help of this user. Most likely F-Droid will move Syncthing to F-Droid’s archive repo as well after Syncthing dev archive the android client repo.

Not an app, but I discovered that I can restore the SteamDeck restore-image to a USB and use it to install SteamOS on my AMD laptop and my full AMD PC.

I won’t do it, but I could if I wanted to battle the locked root system after every update.

yeah, I’m using syncthing-fork, so i think i should be fine. I didn’t use Fdroid actively for the very reason you mentioned. But I can get Syncthing-fork form the github releases so things are sorted :v:

Quick Search in Firefox

So, we all know CTRL+F brings up the “Find” search box in most apps, including Firefox. I just accidentally found that pressing Shift and most other characters not only brings up the Find search box, but also immediately searches for the character you type.

This makes searching for words on a webpage that little bit faster, but isn’t necessarily a game-changer for me. Just nice to know it exists.

Example: Shift+F will immediately search for words with “F”, then you can type the other letters. However, it doesn’t work if your cursor is already in a text field.

Not sure why…it doesn’t work on LibreWolf.

In that context I recently discovered about Text fragments  ( #:~:text=)

Maybe it’s a recent feature and Librewolf hasn’t added it yet in the latest version? Or maybe it is removed by the Librewolf team intentionally or unintentionally when tweaking it for privacy/security?

Who knows.

This doesn’t work for me in Firefox.

Are you sure that isn’t some extension or something in your DE?

I just realised why now. It doesn’t matter if I press Shift or not. It’s because I turned on the
“Search for text when you start typing” feature.

Never mind guys.

Talking about search, do you know that if you select a text and then press CTRL+F, it opens a search with the selected text. And I’m pretty certain I do not have an extra setting enabled

I recently (a month or so ago) discovered Msty for running local LLMs or using external providers: https://msty.app/

I find it very good and easy way to experiment with LLMs on my machine. I still mostly use GitHub Copilot for work, but that’s just because how well it’s integrated with tools.

Not really a application. Stract is an open source web search engine hosted at stract.com targeted towards tinkerers and developers.

Looks like SearXNG already supports it. https://docs.searxng.org/user/configured_engines.html#without-further-subgrouping
