Sorry, forgot to answer, Iām on KDE If that makes a difference.
I use VirtualBox on a daily base.
First and foremost - if you need the functionality provided by the extension pack - you must ensure it is the same version - otherwise remove the package.
$ vboxmanage --version
6.1.14r140239
Either download the relevant extension pack from VirtualBox or use your AUR helper

VBoxSVGA is - by VirtualBox - considered an invalid setting and VirtualBox will change the setting to VMSVGA upon saving the VM settings.
You can cheat VBox to use VBoxSVGA by changing the property outside the VM settings.
To change resolution with xrandr, you just need to provide --output and --mode parameters, e.g.
xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1920x1080
I use xrandr -s 1920x1080 which usually works.
The thing is I cant go to fullscreen like ricklinux goes, I donāt have the option during install, and on the guest OS it says that resolution is not supported.
Iām going to try another distro following his instructions.
I downloaded your video so I can study it at length. Other than a hardware issue, I canāt understand why the other resolutions arenāt available to me. Iām too worked up now lol, Iāll try again later.
Thank you for going out of your way to help!!!
Donāt get worked up over it. It may depend on what your output is. Iām using Dvi and @manuel can help you with this. He knows the commands way better than I do. I know you can set the resolution and tell it what output. Youāll have to do this when booted in the virtual machine I would think.
Edit: He has already provided it in the post above.
Yes, thanks. Itās just very frustrating. Iām going to play a game on my computer to try to āresetā my mind in case Iām missing something that is staring me in the face, thats why I downloaded your video, Iām going to watch it a dozen times before I go to VB again.
Iām also running VirtualBox on KDE currently. As well I run Qemu with Virt-Manager but on it I canāt set to full screen or i get a scroll window so then I have to go full full screen. So on it I set it slightly smaller to not get the scroll window and then use the full screen mode and it covers over the host task bar which is okay but I prefer it on VirtualBox. Reason is because I can have the host task bar handy. Itās just the way I prefer it as I donāt like running the OS in a box.
Iāve had the same issue and will occasionally need to change the Graphics Controller in Virtualbox in order to get the full 1920x1080 resolution.
Can you explain further?
The default graphics controller for the guest system youāre installing through Virtualbox is VMSVGA. Thereās a drop down menu with a couple other choices. Sometimes one works better than the others, so itās worth experimenting.
Hope that helps!
