If you’ll allow me a piece of advice: stay on Windows 10. Windows 11 is basically bloatware full of spyware and abusive policies. Your computer is no longer yours, it’s Microsoft’s. They impose hardware requirements under the pretext of “security,” but in reality it’s a control mechanism that also makes it harder to install anything other than Windows.
They also push mountains of programs and updates you don’t want, collect your data, even take screenshots of your desktop, etc. Windows 10 isn’t perfect either, but it’s at least a bit better.
And the worst part is that by upgrading to 11 we’re basically surrendering to their abuses. Upgrading is like saying “I agree, go ahead.” I can’t do that. I’d rather stay on 10 for the two things I still use it for. Nothing bad will happen when support ends; it will keep working fine.
And fortunately we have Linux, which works beautifully — and you are the one who owns your PC.
I don’t like the way Microsoft pushed 11 out, because 10 was supposed to be “last” Windows and to be frank, it was okay. Not best, but okay. I was really disappointed when they announced 11 and even more when they released more information considering it.
If I did not install EOS to my wife’s old Acer, I would probably be still using Windows and had not found joy of using Linux again, mainly because I was in if not complete but at least half-dark about Proton for example.
But unfortunately things are so that to be able to work etc. Windows is something that most of us have to use even though we would not want to or that there would be better alternatives that organizations etc. won’t use.
So this is not win-win situation. But at least it’s win-lose in way, that at least nowadays there are alternatives to use for most of our other-than-work activity.
