Updated my system and now it gives me a black screen with a blinking underscore cursor

question: what happens if i try updating my system from a snapshot? will it possibly fix this problem without anything happening to previously saved data?

cause im using a snapshot before i updated right now (09-28-2024) and i saved some files during 29th, 30th, and october 1st and second to see if it will get deleted the next time i boot the snapshot. the files have been saved. so im wondering what would happen if i tried updating the system from this snapshot.

thanks to @SemLraug i managed to fix my problem. if anyone still hasn’t fixed it here’s what i did:

  1. boot into the problematic blank screen
  2. manage to get into tty (i spammed it)
  1. do this^
  2. sudo pacman -Syu
  3. reboot

thanks to all the people that helped me (it was a headscratcher for me and i bet it was for the others as well (maybe)). till next time!

Tip: I’d suggest updating your system with command

eos-update # if you have only packages from the repositories

or

eos-update --aur # if you have apps from AUR too

because eos-update will handle the lock file in most cases automatically.

I have the same issue of the ā€œblinking cursorā€ and blank screen; I think the blinking is because when moving the cursor fast it grews and the animation of the cursor growing makes it dissapear during that period of time (at least that’s what seems to happen in my system). I don’t have that lock file, so this doesn’t seem to help my case

thanks! i’ll be using that from now on

it seems that you’re using kde? i use xfce so the cursor growing as you shake it (move it fast) isn’t there
