Two "Bluetooth manager for Xfce" buttons in Welcome 2.2.30+

i think must dutch like english :slight_smile: some dutch translation does not sound wel… :slight_smile:

@manuel the fr first version French Translate is done for Welcome App. I sent You a Pull on Git…

I imagine I will have to test it to see if some button text are not too long !!!

@all_translators
I assume you know how to setup the testing?
The translation file should be copied into /usr/share/endeavouros/scripts folder.
Then welcome can be started.

Yep, will try it today later…
Would be great to move translate Welcome on the right place or create a new Thread for it… I discovered that fr wasn’t done because you told it yesterday !

I was going to update my local translation, but you were quicker than me. I read your translation and fixed a lot of mistake in it.

I even add a gzip file if you want to see what it looks like directly.

Here are some screenshots with your translation @FLVAL tweaked by mine.

I see lot of different Thread with Welcome App Translate Progress !
Are you agree to regroup all in the same Thread ? like : Welcome App Translate Progress

@Bryanpwo this has to be on moderators about it or not ?

@FLVAL @FredBezies
I agree, better have this discussion at Moderators area.

To be honest, I thought the translations were dropped but I have to catch up with a lot of threads. :wink:

The reason the translations in the welcome app wasn’t in the moderator’s area was because of the participation of the translators who aren’t Moderators.

@Bryanpwo
Maybe we can have the translations as unofficial files in a separate place?

This may sound like a bad idea, but I guess some users are very willing to do the translations anyway.

EDIT: the translators should also be willing to make updates when the “default” English translation changes. Otherwise the translations may not be as useful in the long run.

Yep it goes on this way by itself, when a user proposed weblate then it goes in all the ways !
But I do believe for @manuel would make it easier to regroup all in one Thread for it ?

I give You an exemple, we discussed in French with @FredBezies about Welcome App but it’s not the best way cause I need to show some little bug still there so it’s not good. These informations needs to be shared to @manuel

Not easy choice, we have already Translators for it, and then now others Translators from forum.
It needs to find a way to clarify it !

Then my guess would be if we let like this could be complicated to decide who did the best Translate for Welcome App ? At my opinion, our Translators are the most ready for it, what You think ?

Our translators aren’t moderators.

Then they couldn’t reach a mod Thread ? in case you decided they have the last word on Translation ?

@FLVAL
First we must discuss more general things. After that we can decide the details about translations.

Is not a problem of details, here is about structure, the way we do…It takes a decision from @Bryanpwo with it.

This isn’t up to me, in this case it’s up to @manuel, since he’s the one who develops this app, so whatever works for him, we follow him. :wink:

So @manuel, let me know if I create a Thread Welcome App Translate Progress on moderators or not ? So I can move all our messages there…

Because here is about Bluetooth button on Welcome App !

I will wait your decision before to post the feedback from Welcome App Fr

To be honest, I have some mixed feelings about this.

To have translations is great in my mind.
But if we create translations to a set of languages, some users may wonder why we don’t have a translation for their language, and are not comfortable with it.

Github pull requests are probably the best technical way to provide translations, at least for now.

The (technical) challenges for this project are (as I see it):

  • Maintaining translations requires lots of work and unfortunately I don’t have the spare time for it. So I’d like someone else doing the main job for it, basically maintaining all of the translation files. New changes from the Welcome app will come to English translation (=the reference) first.
  • If we have two or more persons doing the same translation, then someone needs to decide which translation is the most up to date. And only the translators can know that, I’m no expert on every language… :wink:
  • Translator(s) should be prepared to make new translations whenever the English translation changes. Otherwise the benefit of having translations is diminished.

Fortunately the translation framework is implemented in a way that if some translations for a language are missing, it will fall back to English.

Hi @all!

If you need someone else for the german translation, i would be honored to help.

@manuel i can understand your point of view. But if there is someone who is feeling bad about a missing translation, can help this project by providing us with a matching Translation. Right?

Yep Translation stays always something more complex that it seems !
But you did already a really good work on the Welcome App for it. From my French test that I’m using now only few little bugs. I will give you details later on the right Thread when you will feel more comfortable on which way you want to take.

Totally agree with you, yes to maintain all the translation files, it asks not only one person who will never speak all lang ! At my opinion, we could ask first to our Translators who are the best choice for it…To make it simple :

  • is not necessary to put a new Lang if no one could maintain it
  • after the ask to our Translators, we could define which Langs to bring in the Welcome App

If we have two or more persons doing the same translation, then someone needs to decide which translation is the most up to date. And only the translators can know that, I’m no expert on every language…

Exactly why I continue to believe that our Translators are the best persons for it, they master their own Lang and also why I asked to @Bryanpwo to take a decision…Sure You couldn’t master all Lang, it’s not to You to maintain these files.

Translator(s) should be prepared to make new translations whenever the English translation changes. Otherwise the benefit of having translations is diminished.

Totally agree with You, in fact did these steps proposal makes sense for you ?

  • Create a Thread dedicated to Welcome App Translate Progress or whatever name you want
  • Ask to our Translators who are able to maintain a Lang to establish a list of Lang
  • Define who is the maintainer of a Lang, meaning he has the last word on his Translate Lang and so become the reference when You modified the Welcome App.
  • Define a process to do, like you proposed Git which stays the best way

Fortunately the translation framework is implemented in a way that if some translations for a language are missing, it will fall back to English.

I saw it in my test and @FredBezies told it too in other Thread, which is the best idea.

You have to know is a great feeling to see the Welcome App in French, and I do believe it will be the same for a lot of Endeavourians, Thanks You for your incredible work. :rocket:
