I released it a moment ago.
Thanks again, now I can practice the second official language here

Cool! It did pop up efter reboot.

Thanks for letting me contribute, it’s an honour to be able to give a little something back.

Oh, I thought that would be Spanish, German, French, Dutch, and then Swedish in The Free Republic of Endeavourland.

If your referring to the country to the right of Sweden, then your’re absolutely right. Have fun practising!

I guess you already noticed that we have two mirrors in Sweden?

This “Portuguese” is for for Portuguese and Brazilians, right?

I am already contributing to the translation of the “welcome” into Portuguese. For now the translation is completed.

Translators, please note that even though I’m collecting all translations into a package eos-translations, I don’t know about the details of most of the translations!

So this is really a community effort!

Thank you all for contributing! :+1:

I will try to translate the Portuguese language in the best possible way and with a quality translation.
Although I have been working with Linux for 13 years the “technical” part is not really my area, although I know more or less how to do things. I just do translation

Currently I translate Xfce, Gnome, Deepin DE, Pantheon, Cinnamon, LXQt, MATE, Trinity DE, IceWM, etc
I also translate various software such as, VLC, SMPlayer, qBittorrent, Gaupol, Whisker Menu, Celluloid Player, Vivaldi Browser, Calamares Installer, etc
I also contribute with the translation in several Linux “Distros”

Indirectly I’m helping EndeavorOS but I’ll be more attentive to the “in house” EndeavorOS things.
Cheers

I’m from India and Hindi is my native language, so I can help with Hindi translations.

The tiny caveat is that most tech users here just use the English language on their device. This includes people I know who never had any formal English education. So Hindi tech users is a very niche category.

Still, I am willing to help if the devs think Hindi translation will be useful.

Edit:
I head over to the Ubuntu website, where I did not find Hindi, but I did find Bengali and Oriya translation teams. These two are also Indian languages. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Contact/Teams

On the Solus translation page, I see that Budgie has been translated to Hindi and Punjabi. https://translate.getsol.us/projects/budgie-desktop/translations/

Indian languages aren’t as niche as I thought they’d be.

Thanks! :+1:

You probably have the latest eos-translations package installed, so please look at file
/usr/share/endeavouros/scripts/translation-en.bash
and that is the one to use as base for translating to other languages.

All translations are here: https://github.com/endeavouros-team/PKGBUILDS/tree/master/eos-translations.

Our wiki about Welcome has some tips for translations too.

And isn’t "hi" the language code for Hindi ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes.

And when you are ready, there are several ways to provide your result to be included in the eos-translations package.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Thank you for sharing these resources

Yes “hi” is the code for Hindi.

I skimmed through the file and I think I’ll be done translating within a week.

By the way, it is possible to easily test the translation:

  • copy the translation file to folder /usr/share/endeavouros/scripts/
  • run command: eos-welcome --lang=hi (as hi is the language code)

If you see any messages on the terminal after starting Welcome, please report them if you don’t know what they mean. Usually they mean that some translations are missing, and should be added

Hi I can help with italian

Thanks @dave :+1:

Simply follow the instructions above.

The current Italian translation indeed needs updating since it does not have all phrases translated.

Maybe I can help regarding the portuguese BR side.
The thing is that I’m not a good translator, and my english is far from ideal.

If I try to help, I would like to someone else to review everything

So, I guess it’s better to find another translator for Portuguese BR, but if you can’t find anyone, I’m here to help.

Thanks! :+1:

The current portuguese BR translation lacks about 8 phrases, so not a huge task I think.

And in general some more translations are already long due in Welcome

I try to get it done in the near future.

Hi @anon49550872

IMHO I think you have to compare your language file with the “translation-en.bash” file and follow it as a basis. Don’t change the: # date

Yes, I tried to follow the pattern, but as I’m not used to code, and it was my first time sending something to github, probably it’s all wrong ehhe

Can you fix it for me? And send again to github?

I made a few changes recently, that I think it’s better than before, take a look, we just need to fix the code to match the pattern in translation-en.bash
