Now I have the long-press-for-right-click on the desktop/apps drawer, but not inside apps (like Firefox or Settings).

Just based on this post, looks like some extensions are problematic. Do you have any extensions enabled or vanilla gnome?

Sorry for basic questions but then we can discard the obvious.

GNOME 42 Wayland Touchscreen Issues

So the Desktop Icons NG (DING) extension was inhibiting the long press to right-click on the desktop. Sigh! Yet another extension I need that causes some unwanted shell issues. I don’t know what’s going on with Nautilus. However, I don’t really care anymore! I was able to fix all of the KDE Plasma applications looking crappy in GNOME by setting the following environmental variable export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=‘kde’.
