Yeah, Arco is throwing except the kitchen sink at the user. Kind of confusing at times.
One point though. It could be made simpler to find the CE upon I stall. Perhaps list them below the standard desktops and add a section community editions. Also almost missed these in the welcome app. And would be nice to install other themed tiling wm in addition to a major DE, like qtile.
I wanted to try it once and it took me like 30 min going thru all the various install iso. . . And gave up.
That whole Arco Linux University thing. It might be good for some folks, IDK but I prefer to find my own path. I find the whole concept a bit “full-on” intimidating, and I was never a very good pupil at school anyway!
I just download this arcolinuxb-xtended iso which contains all most everything. Net installs mostly but it just gets on my nerves. Or just download the iso for your favorite DE under their mirror folders. Basically, there’s too much stuff going on with Arco.
Yeah I thought Arch-type stuff was supposed to follow the K.I.S.S. principle. Arco doesn’t seem to do that in any way!
If I got triggered by every tuber that was ever wrong, I would have ended it all ages ago.
But they are not worth getting upset over.
What a miserable creature your average tuber is! He spends his days chasing after clout and eating the crums of ad revenue that fall off Goolag’s table. “mAKe SuRE tO SMaSh thAt LikE ButToN!” Absolutely pathetic!
And imagine using YouTube as your source of Linux information, when you have ArchWiki and manpages available…
But there are some good laughs to be had, YouTube is not entirely worthless…
Finally, it is not I who has to spend 10 hours watching that seal spin, in order to relax…
I am not aware of it.
I assumed you were quoting what the person in video said at 5:33
Either way, pardon me if I misinterpreted you
PS. All DE are not themed.
Ah OK, sorry for these constant problems due to translators. You are right
We know that, but this guy obviously doesn’t.
It’s a shame that the really good YouTubers like unicks.eu have stopped. Nick really had something to say and the competence to say it. And then comes such a guy, like this one …
The video author didn’t realise you can expand each option on the installer and select/deselect features (he claims you are stuck with what the devs have chosen for you). Maybe a plus sign would be more suggestive instead of those arrows.
Speaking of blabbering… I’ve yet to try Atlantis as I’m perfectly fine with my current EndeavourOS, so out of curiosity I’ve read the latest user reviews at distrowatch, and was wondering if any of this is true:
"With Atlantis, EndeavourOS is effectively turning itself into a point release, employing distro-specific changes that completely gut the reasons most users prefer a rolling release distribution. It’s nauseating.
Compared to vanilla EndeavourOS requires significantly more pacnew merging and manual intervention through upgrades due to middleman patches. Something that hasn’t been required on Arch since 10/23/2020.
What was once just another way to install close-to-vanilla Arch with an extra safety net and a pretty purple XFCE theme has become yet another rolling-but-not-really-rolling-based-release that will come and go within the next few years."
Why because the iso release got a name?
You can just sudo pacman -Syu
and update your system as usual.
Edit: I tried to also enter my review but it didn’t get published. Looks like they selectively accept reviews. Will see if it gets posted later but if not dw is even more biased than I thought.
Judging people based on pronunciations, welcome to the 21st century Ladies and Gentlemen!
Not gonna lie, I’d subscribe.
No.
Same, tried to post my review for weeks until I gave up. Maybe they block certain countries or ip ranges.
