In my mind it can.
I identify as a billionaire maaaaan!
In my mind i can buy solution to e2e encryption snooping.
Sometimes I’m not strong enough to argue respectfully.
So, I’ll just wait, perhaps tomorrow I can come back and say something…
There isn’t anything to argue about.
hm, is that what you think ?
Nice..
And I thought you were never going to post something we could finally agree on! I assumed by this point you were never going to figure it out!
Criminals will move to something like EncroChat which they setup themselves, only low IQ criminals will continue to use WhatsApp to discuss their criminal activities. The terrorists who did the terrorist attack in Paris used mobile phones and plain text messaging and the government wasn’t able to prevent it. It’s only the law abiding citizens that will lose another bit of privacy because of law like this.
It’s pretty old-school way of doing it, this days they brag about their actual crimes in mumble rap videos on YouTube or TikTok and then got arrested immediately
Kids this days…
I still don’t think that having another bit of privacy taken a way is a good thing for the average law abiding citizen, while most criminals will find ways to avoid getting caught.
I am not going to get involved into this discussion about the law in UK but I do want to mention that your statement is just not correct.
We see lots of criminal activities in WhatsApp, Telegram, facebook chat, etc. Child abuse or child pornography for example is very much happening in whatsapp, telegram, common cloud services etc. You can not give these people a secure space.
How about the law abiding citizen sharing pictures of them showering or bathing with their own children with other family members. Then getting flagged by Google or Microsoft and losing access to their email accounts and all the family pictures stored on Google drive or Onedrive and being unable to get access to it again and losing all their family photos stored there. Let’s just ban WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, etc, that way criminals won’t have a platform to use.
They’ve bring it to themselves, should have never trusted other people’s computer…
-based storage 101
Everyone uses cloud storage now days as backup, normal people shouldn’t be punished for wanting to share pictures with family members or upload them to cloud storage since it’s the only way they know how to make backups. I only uss my own Nextcloud now days, but that’s only because I know how to setup one and maintain it.
I totally agree, that’s why such content is clearly covered by current laws in any country, moderated and removed in all of the mentioned platforms (yes, including Telegram which some people still for some reason think is not regulated by law and safe & secure)
If you see something illegal on any of those platforms - report it - it will get removed for sure.
Better question is though is why they’re NOT using already running AI to battle it?
They use it for political prosecution, they’ve used it during COVID to remove any unorthodox opinions automatically, but all the actually illegal stuff was “fine”…There’s definitely some food for thought.
Well i’m aware that we’re living in
And obviously you’re right that people shouldn’t get punished for what they haven’t done.
That was tongue’n’cheek
How about if they pas a law at some point that makes taking selfies against the law and anyone that takes a selfie gets the death penalty without prosecution. Then when someone takes a selfie it is recognized by the flagging system, they automatically get put on a list where cops are allowed to shoot them on sight. It’s an exaggerated example but I think you get the point.
Sounds good, everyone will take selfies with politicians from their phone!
Sir, i’m such a big fan of yours, but i forgot my phone…
That is a pity. And this should not happen. But on the other hand, I find it very, very questionable to take nude picture of your children and to upload them to cloud service. You should overthink that process.
They (law enforcement) are using AI to find such content. But if everything is encrypted, they have no chance to find anything. That means that per default encryption in IT services is a big issue for law enforcement.
