🤘 The Greatest Metal Album Is?

I’m 62 years old. I’ve listened to, and own, some of the finest metal albums recorded. As far as I’m concerned, the greatest metal album is…

Aside from just being a searing, beautiful, gut-punch of metal music; it contains probably the best anti-drug song ever recorded…

  • In all honesty, it was a difficult choice between ā€œMaster Of Puppetsā€ and…

:sign_of_the_horns:t3:

How broadly do we stretch the definition of metal?

For me personally, I still think Deep Purple’s Made in Japan is one of the greatest albums ever.

Great question. And I’m not sure I have an answer.

I can’t argue with that. Easily fits into a top 10 metal album list for me.

Showing my age here - same as you, @UncleSpellbinder. For me, it’s a toss-up between Ratt’s Invasion of Your Privacy and Def Leppard’s Pyromania. Honorable mention to Scorpion’s Black Out.

Clearly it’s ā€œ11 Dreamsā€ by ā€œMercenaryā€:

For old-school classic metal at least, my vote goes to Rainbow Long Live Rock n’ Roll

I remember Master of Puppets at Rock am Ring back in 2006. For the 20th anniversary, they played the entire album. And the best part was that it was broadcast live on TV back then

Well, for me that’s the one that got me into the genre.

Iron Maiden - Brave New World

Second best comeback album ever, right after Celtic Frost - Monotheist.

Hmm, metal from the eighties, this comes to mind.

Well I’ve got no greatest of all time, but those are constantly in my queue, if I had to choose one I would go with the Hypocrisy album:

80s:

90s:

00s:

10s:
Well its a compilation / best of, but that one left a mark:

20s:
Needs another 4 years, but these 2 lead the field for me so far.

Some are not easy listening. Especially if your’re not into the more extreme type of metal.

I don’t have a Greatest as there are just so many that could be in that list at any given moment. However Here are Some of my tops

The Ones who Started it all

One of My Favorite 80’s Metal Bands

Another Great Band that Brought the fire.

Lastly I’ll add another favorite album from another favorite band.

My favourite album of all time (and apparently Eddie Van Halen’s as well).

This question is harder for me to answer than how did i end up here after a night of heavy drinking lol

Not metal but one of the greatest inspirations for every metal guitarist everywhere. I can’t begin to describe the effect that Eruption/ You Got Me (well, all of the album Van Halen) had on high school culture in 1978; it was mind-blowing in its scope, sound engineering, production, and performance. It forever changed how lead guitar was played.

Great thread!

This comes to mind:

There’s not really a favorite, there are many favorites in my book. Depends on the mood of the day. :sign_of_the_horns:

In hindsight, this album is one of the best I listened to at the time

also a great album
