The EndeavourOS forums are primarily for those seeking help and/or advice regarding EOS, Linux, Desktop Environments, Apps, etc…
Real-time chat functions (like Discord, WhatsAPP, and Matrix) do not exist here. If you’re looking to “make friends” or “chat”, might I suggest you utilize one of the aforementioned apps to do so?
If there is a dedicated section for general chat and making connections, then personally I have no issue with that, but taking actual useful and help threads off topic is something I have pretty much no time for
I agree, it needs to be done in a respectful and thoughtful way. Those sorts of topics I would consider spam and probably delete.
I mean more in the sense over time as you spend more time at a forum contributing, conversing and getting to know people (well, as well as you can online) a sort of friendship does develop and general chat seems to happen more.
We already have The Lounge for off-topic, general banter. But still the EOS Forums are NOT meant, or designed for real-time chat. And real-time chat is exactly what some new users are/were attempting.
The lounge category was created to allow topics and discussions not relevant to specific eos issues. That doesn’t mean it’s a free for all and anything goes. As stated this is not a chat room or application. It is a technical forum for an Arch based linux distribution. “EndeavourOS”
I think everyone of us has been a kid and kids tend to be stupid on time to time. At least I was. However I think I can say that we did not communicate in a way some kids or “kids” have here demonstrated.
I think it has something to do with the Internet. If we would have been shouting “Sup”, “Where’s a place to communicate for 0-year old’s” or “BEANS! THOSE DAMN BEANS! AAEEORGHHBLLRGH!!!11” we would probably have ended into asylum.
All of this is nonsense. Even the most stupid idiot should be able to tell from the title of this forum that this CANNOT be a full-time daycare center. As a moderator, I would remove something like this from here immediately without further discussion.
Any discussion with whatever/whoever that is is a waste of time.
I’m leaning towards bots. A number were linking back to an Adalo forum, and requesting users sign up and chat there. Afaik, Adalo is a no/low-code web app platform, it’s a little suspect.. Regardless, I think the underlying concern is that a forum for support and updates gets shifted to a “chatroom”, - I genuinely don’t think that’s going to happen.
