I admit I got a bit hot headed too. It’s one of my personal issues that I have where seeing people disagree with me enrages me to no end, which isn’t healthy. I accept your apology and I want to extend my own.
I personally try to be as private conscious as I can be, without going to absolute extreme lengths. I’m just a regular Joe, not an activist. We all have something to protect, as you said, but there are people who have to protect themselves from everything and anything. I don’t believe I am such a person to require such a massive level of privacy.
I also believe I’m not responsible for someone else’s choices. If they willingly engage in that behavior, even after I explained what happens with their data and why these corporations aren’t your best friend, it’s their problem and not mine. I have been banned in different online places because I wasn’t able to just let someone be. I got extremely mad at everybody around me and have almost broken friendships because of my inability to let someone be, as dumb as I think they might be. I don’t want to care for others choices anymore. I already have enough on my plate as is to worry about than to worry about what someone who doesn’t even freaking care about this either issue uses. If they want to be that way, so be it. So I guess my comment was “oh well”, but only because I know I will get angry at people who don’t care and ultimately damage my cause due to my reaction for people who do, to some degree, care.
I don’t think I have expressed anything besides my own disinterest in trying to carry this torch much further than spreading the word for privacy conscious software and how corps do it for the reasons I’ve explained above. If you can’t understand those reasons, then please go and scream it in the void because I’m not here to f*ck my mental health for idiots.
Yes, it would. However, they did recently add some privacy-respecting features to their service. This is probably because of their growing number of Linux users.
I doubt any other big gaming service even thinks about privacy.
When it comes to using online services, there is always a tradeoff, even the open-source ones.
Considering how much Valve has done for Gnu/Linux the past couple years, it’s one of the few non FOSS programs I use. Can’t live without my video games.
tbh, I love steam and its the only thing that has allowed me to plunge in all the way. Valve has single handedly made Linux have a chance in the foreseeable future for Desktop Dominance
Fr man , you can’t change idiots who don’t want to be changed. Imho if you use a proprietary privacy invading software and if a Foss ideal alternative is present , I would rather advocate to use that Foss version , even if it disrupts my workflow a bit , to show my rage, disinterest, and disapproval of that corporation.
From your comments, I was able to gather this summary:
Those who can be changed , will become aware and use whatever ideal software they find . And those who cannot more like those who won’t , will simply favour their favourite corporation.
Sorry about your mental situation man. Hope you are doing better. Best wishes for you man, and stay strong.
I mean… Do we need desktop dominance? I don’t know if I want everybody to use Linux anymore. If they want to switch, sure. If they don’t want to switch, also sure.
I DO want everyone to switch because even though many will remain computer/technology-illiterate, the internet and by extension the world will be better for it.
So bring on the world! The luddite, the normie, the tech-savvy and everything in between.
You can’t avoid normies being normies (average) because there must be an average.
It’s called suckless philosophy. If you want your software to suck less, don’t try to cater to every user with his specific use case. Cater to a small elite that can modify the code themselves to suit their own specific needs.
