Thank You EOS Developers

hello,

never used systemd, i3 or sway before and always want to try out and i accidentally came across to EOS on exact release day, while searching for Sway configs on my old GenToo system.

I’am really surprised how good this is!

there are some little hick ups, but it’s always fun to search for solutions.

thank you @ all, who managed this, including the Sway Developer

greetings (…programs) :upside_down_face:

oh nice a Gentoo user. I wanted to give that a go until I saw the Wiki size.

I think next time I am between jobs I’ll dedicate some time for fun on it

Gentoo? Isn’t that like 12 days to install?

depends on what your installing.

on my system almost 4 to 5 hours, including recompiling the whole system via emerge -e @system and emerge -e @world.

and if i am bored, i initiate a complete new (re)install with emerge -va --usepkg=y.

and this takes 1 hour, maybe.

Jeez, usually it’s for Firefox only

You must have super-computer :upside_down_face:

new releases of ungoogled-chromium takes over 8 hours

and with ccache, maybe just 1, more or less.

all this while surfing and watching streams.

40 minutes and with ccache 7 min., more or less.

i exclude most of the options i don’t need, eg. cups etc. with most of the apps.

no webkit - no rust - no kde and so on and i always use a custom kernel.

Thx for opening my eyes to ccache, i had no idea…
That’s really useful even here when building some big stuff from AUR! :upside_down_face:

on my new EOS system i compiled FireDragon with yay <<< what a great name and the system used ccache automatically !

best way to use it is by creating the ccache folder on another drive, but sometimes the compilation will fail because of it.

at least 32GB RAM is a must on a system like GenToo, imho.

thanks @all for your kind welcome :sunglasses:

i enjoyed it so much, that i even installed EOS (Sway) on my very old MacBook Air 2011, yesterday.

and everything’s working, except keyboard backlight.

i assume, EOS wil became number one in the near future !
