Well, according to this Debian would suit me best.
But I won’t make that change. I know why I wanted a distro which challenges me to do more stuff within a terminal. And even if I would prefer stability over the bleeding edge of a rolling release. Features such as BTRFS in combination with timeshift are an adequate fail prevention which negates the risk of something going totally wrong. As of yesterday for example. Did some maintenance on my install, removed some unwanted stuff, orphans … everything went fine. But after an update of pacman to version 7.0 my system booted into the grub rescue shell, which has never happened to me before and I didn’t knew what to do initially as I never had to tackle this. Ended up with the lazy route. Booted into the live iso, restored the backup I’ve created after my maintenance stuff and anything went smoothly after that.

Well, it correctly predicted my preference for Mint #1. OpenSuse was next and fedora was #9. First near arch was Manjaro #18. Arch was #26. EOS should have made the top10.

Interesting tool, I remember trying a distro chooser some years ago. This one did better!

Devuan was my #1 rec too. It’s just the Init version (no sysd) of Debian, mas o menos…and nowhere in those questions did I hint any sysd v. init vibe and nowhere did I notice any package manger prefs…only update prefs.

Suse was my #2 according to them. I try it once a year. It’s stable and reliable and somewhat handsome like Fedora but it’s not quite exciting enough for me.

just don’t see the science in this poll. I’m a big fan of openbox stuff like Venom and weridly beautiful stuff like Mandriva or Mageia.

I used it years ago. Not bad, it just wasn’t for me.

I done the test for curiosity, but I already knew I would end up wit the result I got as I researched all options before even choosing a Linux Distro.

My results are the following:

  1. Arch
  2. Gentoo
  3. Artix
  4. Devuan
  5. Void

Here is a link to my results, if anyone is interested. I only listed 5 as theres too many of them to list but Ubuntu, Mint, Zorin, Pop OS etc are at the bottom for me.

Mine were Arch, Gentoo, and NixOS. Substituting Arch for EOS, my correct list is very close, swapping only Gentoo and NixOS.

Back in my days as a student in a field related to computer sciences…
Setting up Gentoo was more compiling it completely from scratch, rather than installing it. That was way too much effort for me. But my former roommate was up to that challenge and spend some weeks on it.

That was almost 20 years ago. Github didn’t even existed in that time.. Nowadays its way more approachable. Linux in general that is. To me Gentoo it is still in the category “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”. I went the lazy route and switched to an Mac when they launched their first Intel based Macbooks. Which simply worked and were quite affordable and hard drives as well the ram and battery could be upgraded.

Yes—I’ve tried Gentoo…after emerging this, that & everything…It was “very Interesting”----but, I didn’t see much in the way of real-world improvement.

I’ll still take Arch for the best blend of work vs use.
