I’ve never had this problem using replace partition.

It did not in my case and this is what this thread has been about. Unless you hear from others, it is a one-off and not to worry.
The selection of “alongside/shrink” in the installer did the trick for me.
Do you have the install logs or have they been overwritten at this point?
Unfortunately not and gone to far already to revert it. Would it be possible for the installer to store its logs on a persistant area of Live USB with a timestamp?
Not without some significant changes to the way the ISO is made.
I watch out next time and store ~/endeavour-install.log somewhere else. It might be a good idea to make the user aware of the existence of that file somehow.
It gets copied to /var/log of the installed system.
