Steam won't load Lake

idkw steam will not load lake (the game)… i figured this out while trying to get my batarang detected (which i did).

i am gonna try elder scrolls and see if that loads… will get back to you guys/girls… i am installing that now.

sure takes a long time to install skyrim :-\

Have a look here for some tips:

You might consider installing proton-ge-custom (Proton Glorious Eggroll), as an additional compatibility option, typically more cutting edge than Proton Experimental.

will do, 10-4… will get back to you after i am done! THANKX

For what it’s worth, Skyrim has run well for me when I’ve played it in the past.

Sorry @whitewolfAK47, I was confusing in my suggestion. That’s on me.

I’d said proton-ge-custom, but I’d linked to proton-ge-custom-bin. Try that one instead, as you won’t need to compile that.

yay -S proton-ge-custom-bin

i installed this and proton-ge-custom tbh i did both neither worked. skyrim failed to load as well as lake. i set the compatibility in steam to proton-ge. thanks for trying to help me Bink. i really do apreciate it. :wolf:

i’m going to try to restart my computer? lol maybe that will help. doubt it but here goes nothing…

@ddnn just raised a possible issue in this other thread, about X11 causing Steam games to fail.

I must admit, my gaming system has been using Wayland for a little while now so I was oblivious of any possible X11 issue. Are you using Wayland?

yes unfortuntately i am using wayland so that makes this more confusing…

also i just noticed the sega mega drive & gensis classics works on my machine for some reason? odd that lake and skyrim don’t

With Skyrim, you might try Proton 9.

I use Proton-GE as my default, and that works well for most games. Occasionally, particularly on older games, or ones with special launchers and such, I need to work back through older versions of Proton. Generally, I’ll get success before going as far back as Proton 6.

If you’re not already, adjust the compatibility tool per-game, not in the general Steam settings (leave that one set to a version that works well for the majority of your games).

trying now

i am trying to get protonup-git in the aur as well to try that i am getting GE-Proton9-15 just to test as well. i tried all the ones you suggested all the way down to 6 with no luck. i am trying to do the different version on lake now to see if they work.

with lake if i do proton 7 it gives me this message wheni try to launch lake:

Failed to initialize graphics.
Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled
3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed

idk if that helps, probably not

What’s the output of :

i just tried it in cinammon de with no luck idkw i thought that might help right now i am in kde wayland though… hmmm thanks so much for trying to help me, fr fr :fire::fire::fire:

i KNOW i have previously on different installs of this machine endeavouros lake and skyrim were both working (but like i staid different installs of endeavouros on this machine).

so i assume something is messedup due to the fact that BOTH of them were working before.

oh i KNOW mortal combat 11 never worked on this machine. which always sucked…

I’m less familiar with AMD GPU’s. I wonder if it’s somehow Vulkan / Mesa related.

Do you have mesa and/or vulkan installed?

YES it appears i do… i don’t even know what they are TBH

Just curious this came up with no data…

Vulkan is a successor to OpenGL (competitor to DirectX you might say).
Mesa is an implementation of OpenGL.
