Steam DXVK games start and close on Nvidia

Hello,

This is my first message on the forum I hope it will contains the necessary information
My system specs are:

  • AMD R5 5600X
  • NVIDIA RTX 3080
  • Kernel 6.0.2
  • NVIDIA drivers 520.56.06

I’m having some issues starting older games in Steam running in 32bits: Resident Evil Remaster HD and Red Alert 3 for example.

Initially I found out that I had AMD for vulkan and uninstalling it and adding lib32-nvidia-utils fixed the issue, but the next day it stopped working.
Games are just starting and closing without any obvious error.

Forcing WINE3D allows the games to start but the performance are pretty bad and it crashes after a bit of time

I’ve added the command PROTON_LOG=1 %command% and here is the file generated

Some commands output if it can help

Make sure you have all requirements

Thanks
I did follow this page and have the mentioned packages as far as I can tell, like said in introduction it did fixed my initial dxvk::DxvkError issue

However I don’t know what is the current issue right now, the only “weird” message I assume is the last line

pid 77120 != 77119, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)

But I don’t see any errors in the log otherwise

Sorry, i was a little in hurry to read so had to make sure

I wonder why you say only 32 bit games…
Meaning, absolute most of games are 32 bit, including modern ones.

That probably indicates some issue with dxvk / vulkan

It may be an assumption on my part, but before those games didn’t start because I was indeed missing

lib32-nvidia-utils

And they are a bit older using DXVK, but you are correct I will update the description and replacing 32bits by DXVK, as far as I can tell VKD3D is working fine on Cyberpunk and others games.

Read some of this:
https://www.protondb.com/app/17480

It looks like those games require some tweaking / forcing specific wine / proton version.

Especially that one:

P.S. Oh and where are my manners…Welcome aboard btw!

Thanks for the welcome! and great news it worked with

PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%

No idea what made DXVK stopped working but at least it’s fine for now

I can’t wait to see what the new AMD gpu will offer and probably switch to then, from what I’ve read I should have less issue than with NVIDIA
Thanks for the help

Just one of those games which are little quirky and requires some tweaking

In the future, if you have some problems like that with specific games first places to search for those quirks:
