You can get it from the AUR, by using yay -S spotify
since we’re rolling with Arch that’s the most “native” option there is. The Arch repo doesn’t have propriety software.
Thanks!
If it gives you an error trying to install then import the gpg key first then install it.
gpg --recv-key A87FF9DF48BF1C90
here and there spotify get, not installed, is best also sometimes look at aur.archlinux.org and look at the comments sometimes there is a hint. with yay -S --editmenu you can edit the pkgbuild to modify it.
Always look up software in the AUR and review the PGKBUILD and .install files first before just installing with yay or your favorite aur helper. if you use DuckDuckGo for your search engine !aur is your friend
For those trying to install Spotify i have used the following. Be patient as it takes a while to build.
yay -S --mflags --skipinteg spotify
Works !!
Thank you !!
Am I the only one using “git clone” to attempt an install through snapd? I found the info for this process on a Manjaro wiki, and adopted it to my own usage. No, I did not think to check here first. I used the search terms “spotify” and arch-based" in my search engine to find the snapd process. Should I be researching how to remove snapd from this EndeavourOS installation so I can learn how to use yay instead?
@EndeavorOS_N00B
I only give the command above when the licence number was flagged out of date. You can install spotify with normal.
yay -S spotify
I’ll admit that I didn’t think it completely through, as I’m really that new to arch-based distros. I searched for spotify using the pacman -Ss command option and it returned no results, so I immediately searched for an alternative method with the other serach terms in my browser. SMH. I take it that “yay” is another package repository alternative to “snapd” and “pacman”?
The reason pacman didn’t find it is because it is an AUR package. Yay will install and update both AUR and pacman packages.
Edit: You can use yay to search also.
I see now. It is a “wrapper” for pacman, not a repository. Apologies. I’m still learning the basics. After using “yay -Ss spotify” and seeing a version that uses Qt, I assume that would be the correct version to download for my LXQt desktop environment?
I’m not sure on that? I just normally download spotify with yay and it doesn’t give that many options. But if you search with yay i think it brings up a lot more stuff.
There is a difference I noticed when searching “yay spotify” and “yay -Si spotify.” The former gives much more output related to the search term “spotify” whereas the latter only gives one result. Like I said… I’m still learning, but I’ll get there eventually. Thanks for your replies. At least now I know I have a way to search for what I want before having to install an entirely different wrapper…LOL.
I used yay -Ss spotify and you get a big list but i use the one from the AUR. Sometimes if it’s out of date it won’t install so i will use the dev or git version.
@ricklinux Hmm… I used git to install snapd, and as it turns out, the snap version of spotify doesn’t work, so now I’m uninstalling both that version of spotify and then snap. I think I’ll try the yay version next.
Yes just yay -S spotify and pick #1
Edit: I don’t like snaps. On Arch there is so much software just normally or in the AUR.
Hey… at least I got some practice with stopping a service, disabling a service, and then purging a (for me) useless wrapper… LMAO!
I see your flag and i didn’t know what it was? Is this part of France?
