You could also get the 5700X. Basically a late release Zen3 part that was essentially AMD’s saying "yes, the 5800x is too expensive so here’s a more tolerably priced version. Depending on sales, the 5700x can be a much better value than the 5800x, and is always more powerful than the 5700g since it’s got the full L3 cache unlike the 5700G.

Exactly, that’s my point.

I wanted to get the 5700X but ended up with the 5800X which normal price currently is $599 Cdn My 3800X works really well so I’m sure the 5800X is great. They do use more wattage @ 100 watt. Originally yes the 5800X was too expensive but i got one for $285 Cdn and the current sale price is $319 Cdn so I’m satisfied with that. Would have taken the 5700X also but they sold out fast at the time being on sale.

The 5800X is currently available at ALTERNATE for 254 €, the 5700G is only slightly cheaper.

you can always enable EcoMode in UEFI and limit the TDP. My 7700X runs at 65W TDP (originally 105W) and lost almost no performance because it stays cooler and thus can clock higher in the short periods where the peak performance is usefull/necessary

A dining table is evidently important when you have people over, according to the more female part of the Ecks residense.

That, and a nine year old gifted HP Pavilion.

…and a Christmas tree.

I’ll take the Jack Daniels …with some coke!

Uncle Nearest is also a very nice Tennessee whiskey. Notice the three stars from the Tennessee flag on the seal.

Good to know because i like Jack Daniels. I’ll have to see if it’s sold here and i checked. Yes it is but not cheap. $140.30 Cdn.

Yep. They’re proud of it.

@ricklinux about half that here. If you are ever in eastern Tennessee I’ll buy you a bottle.

Since we suffer a lot of loadshedding in South Africa I got us one of these:

Nifty Gizzu powerbank with latest superduper Li-ION technology, which prevents us from being kicked off the internet when the lights go out. :star_struck:

We also splurged on this:

HiTop for our little camper van! Not yet finished, needs more lights and housing for the rearview camera.

Gotta admit, I’m not overly impressed with the laptop now that I’ve got it and all the upgrades in. BIOS is a pile of excrement. Takes 20-30 seconds to post, ignores the settings for the keyboard special keys and if you need to push Fn to invoke them or not (just stays at special keys function regardless of setting), couple other options are just ignored by the machine. Runs fine once it’s gets up, but the poor bios implementation makes it totally underwhelming. A PCIe 4x4 SSD that’s getting 7000 MBps reads + 32 GB DDR5 4800 should NOT take 40+ seconds to boot due to a 30+ second POST time!!!

I must have been a good lad this past year, as Santa was very nice to me .

Two new knives: A Mikov 241 and an A.G.A. Campolin Zero. Both reverse-leverlock auto openers. Auto opening knives (aka switchblades) are legal to carry where I live, so these will be getting a lot of pocket time (both have pocket clips).

The Mikov is made in the Czech Republic, the A.G.A. Campolin is made in Italy. As always, apologies for my crappy camera, lighting, and photography skills.

The Mikov’s blade is 95mm (3.75 inches) long, and the Campolin’s blade is 100mm (3.9 inches).

I like these words you come up with.
Did that van get a new paint job or is it still the same?

Not my invention. I’d say blackout, pure and simple. The national power company calls it loadshedding.

Van got a partly new paintjob. The first painter was shit, my mech is now redoing it, panel by panel. And he needed to paint the hitop anyway. But we stayed with my original scheme, creme white and sky blue.
