So far, I have resisted (just) - but really only because the secondary NVME slot isn’t gen 4 on this system…

Now if only I had a use case for all the speed I have (except compiling, and that is pretty lightweight these days)…

I just bought 5 - 4TB HDD. This will replace the 4 drives in my server, and one in the back-up array. Since 3 of the drives in the server are much newer, 3 years, than those in the back-up array, 10+ years, I will shift 3 of them to the back-up array. I also picked up an external NVME enclosure for my extra NVME drive. This will allow me to back-up my Linux install much faster than my current drive.

HDD

I know the picture only shows 4 drives. I had to order the 5th. I bought every 4TB drive in town. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

How’s the price this days? :upside_down_face:
Managed to get decent offer?

It’s a little bit late after all the hard drive crypto mining stuff

Not too bad. I found them at a couple of small shops in town. The main shops did not have any in stock, and were not able to get any more. The WD drives were the equivalent of 90 USD each and the Seagate was 105 USD. I ordered another WD.

Cheap 2TB external SSD, $30 from ebay. I’m leery of such a cheap drive, but so far so good.

Wow, $30?? I’d have absolutely no use for that whatsoever, but I’m still envious.

And you even got $5 back…

Are you suggesting it’s only worth $5.00 :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think it means he figures the drive is sitting on its packaging! I wouldn’t mind that as an insert on my packages…

especially as it's worth more than ours ATM

FYI: The ebay ad pitches it as “USB 3.0 and 3.1 compatible”. My real-world testing timed it at 10.8MB/s file transfer speed, or slightly better than a cheap 2.0 USB stick. It is compatible with USB 3.0 only in that the USB-C connector fits. Really though all I need it for is monthly file backup, so blinding speed is not important.

Got a new ‘Smart’ watch. Decent watch, but the software is rather lacking when it comes to messages, which is why I bought it. Oh well, guess you can’t expect a $40 smart watch to have a high IQ, can you?

Related note, AMD has CPUs in stock right now, 20210625 13:00 GMT.

https://www.amd.com/en/direct-buy/us

When i bring up the site it only shows video cards. If i go to Ryzen and click on processors the page only shows find retailers. But I’m in Canada?

Probably have to change your country in there somewhere. It’s currently set for the US.

No it just shows language. They show video cards but all out of stock. No processors.

Edit: I can get here anyway my retailer has 5 5950X in stock. @ $1049 Cdn =$854.32 US

I have some since before too. T3 and T5 from them. Good SSDs.
