I’m fighting the urge to spend even omre money on computer stuff since I really want to buy a house someday before Armageddon. . .

So, thanks to @ringo Instead of a full computer build for a computer I’ll realistically never use and will probably dust more than anything - I decided to upgrade to the glass trackpad on my t480s, which is a computer I will probably have for years to come still. It’s a LOT smoother and feels much more like my x1 carbon touchpad. Oddly enough, this is a trackpad out of a 3rd Gen X1 Yoga. It’s the same size as mine but it’s made of glass instead of plastic like the one that comes standard.

Very simple, but it definitely feels better. Drop in, and works with Linux drivers.

Oddly, I (somewhat) recently tried the same thing on my T14 Gen2 AMD, and found that I HATE the feel of the glass touchpad. Absolutely despised it.

It’s way smoother, I glide. The plastic or kevlar or whatever it’s made of is much much more grippy when sliding.

Want my old one? hahaha We’ll see, I’ve only used it for like 10 min. Maybe it’s terrible. It’s just “new” still.

edit: My guestures don’t feel quite as “consisten” yet, but again, I just don’t know if that’s just new, or if it’s something I don’t like about it.

I found that my favorite touchpad is one that has a vinyl skin on it. Sadly I SUCK at getting the touchpad skins on straight…

I really liked this one until the plastic started to wear and the shine came about. I don’t know if that will happen a few years from now on this one also. . . But, it’s not supposed to wear like the plastic, so I guess I’ll find out.

Either way, this is and still is my favorite computer I’ve ever owned. I love this Thinkpad. I’d sell my Legion in an instant. I’d carry this Thinkpad to the ends of earth.

Yeah, that is the problem with the plastic ones, they do turn to that shiny smooth but “sticky” and then they’re absolutely awful to try to use.

Ya, mine is definitely “sticky” feeling at this point it’s so worn.

A screen upgrade is all that is left. I’ve already got a 32gb patriot 2400 ddr4 ram (40gb total) and the wwan card swapped for a 256gb WD 520 2242 drive which currently houses windows 10, but I’ve been thinking more and more about turning it into my “distro testing” drive. Now the glass trackpad. The original junk fhd screen is in. I don’t like the touchpad and I don’t really need wqhd or anything really. This is mostly just email, forum whoring, music and chat. It travels with me. But, I think that’s really the only “upgrade” left to do would be the screen.

Go with the FHD 400-nit low-power LCD. Most of them are 1000:1 contrast or better (many are 1200:1), and they actually do run at lower power. WAY lower than I ever imagined. When I swapped the 300-nit WUXGA (1920x1200) screen to the 400-nit WUXGA in my T14 Gen3 (Intel) I gained NEARLY an ENTIRE HOUR of battery life. Absolutely was floored, I was expecting 15-20 minutes, it was 50 minutes improved!!!

Instead of completely hijacking this thread - pm me. I’m already floored by battery life. . . but another hour, this thing would last like 2 days at that point. . . Now I’m interested hahahaha.

Got this HP Probook 430 G4 for 50€ in from my local e-waste center. https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-ProBook-430-G4-Core-i7-Full-HD-Notebook-Review.189515.0.html

  • Core i7-7500U
  • 16 Gigs of DDR4
  • Mint condition
  • Battery keeps 2hour
  • 250g nwme + 1 empty sata slot

Seems like awesome 2nd computer. Screen sux. It is some cheap TN-panel with 720p resoltion but I can live with it.

I like to keep some of these older PC:s around in case of zombie apocalypse

You can always upgrade the screen to a 1080P/FHD one if you’d like. Not overly hard, and not incredibly expensive, just a bit time consuming.

Finally…although I have to say I’m not really impressed so far coming from a base PS4.

Yeah price was surprise because it is really high quality controller.

I love their controllers. I have the pro2 and the wired pro2 for xbox. I use the heck out of those 2 controllers.

This pad has insane battery life. I have played 17 hours according Steam and it is stil running.

Dirt cheap mechanical keyboard with fake brown switches and wannabe RGB lighting:

This being my own at first try. :frowning: Got it sorted by now and must say I’m really satisfied with it. Fully modular, easy to clean, and switches are very well done.
