For me it s sometimes the amount of reading one has to do. Unless I am really interested in the subject matter I sometimes pass by huge posts.
Why this? If I am scrolling through that mentioned thread and there is a post which has more images in, the avatar stays on the left side while the username disappears. Simply hovering over the avatar gives the link to the username …
That’s not the point. The point is excessive posting.
No, it shouldn’t be limited because if someone wants to make a guide or something it might be necessary to uploade like 10 images in 1 post.
Ah, I did not see that point. As a long time user in excessive forums, usenet groups etc. I am used to skip long postings I am not intererested in very fast …
My opinion (which is worth what you paid for it, being free), is that I’m not heavily image oriented and just usually don’t pay much attention to threads that ARE.
I have no problem with umm oversharing images, just that I am not interested in viewing them (in most cases). So as long as they don’t overflow into more technical threads…
I see the point rabcor made about tutorial threads maybe being useful, so maybe shouldn’t limit it?
Not sure the Discourse software has such a feature anyway. But if there were a limit, I’d say it should be for users under Trust Level 3, as they are less likely to be creating wikis.
Of course, for the ones who do, this could potentially be awful for them, so I don’t actually think it should be done. I just think individuals need to be more considerate of others and try to be moderate when posting, even in threads that are just for fun.
With a tutorial there is a different expectation then there is with a thread that shares a meme’s to help others get through their day. And I would argue that if its that deep of a Tutorial then wouldn’t Video be just as good if not better? I mean this is a thread that was started do to some one feeling the need to aggressively post in another tread.
Different strokes man, sometimes a plaintext tutorial with pics is just better. some people just prefer that in general, some people prefer videos.
But yes, indeed, however a post limit would affect these too.
I don’t think it’s a big issue, besides meme threads n shit like that, it’s not like you see posts with many pics often. It’s better to leave something that’s working unfixed.
I don’t know maybe a Wiki for a tutorial
To be clear, an image “post limit” isn’t the way to go, IMHO. Just common sense posting etiquette, I think. And this was originally about the Meme threads (and threads where images are the point), not posting in general.
As I said in the OP…
I think its the context of the thread that should determine it. For the thread this got started from definitely needs to be a limit if people can’t be sensible about their post. A Tutorial like @rabcor was discussing its acceptable to have multiple pictures in a post. These are education tools to help one understand how to do something. The meme thread that started this conversation from its just totally inappropriate in MY honest opinion to post more than 2 as its not Educational but its a break from the reality of our hell that surrounds us.
Wikis generally do not contain tutorials; and the endeavouros wiki is a very sorry excuse for a wiki, and i don’t think it can be edited by just anyone either.
You do not see value in these?
Clearly there’s some reason they are posting it here and not on some wiki.
Cool enjoy your day
Assuming such a thing is even possible in the forum backend.
Really?
yeah it’s not much of a wiki… call it personal opinion (it is) i’m just really not impressed by it.
Let me put it this way, if I compare it to archwiki or just plain old wikipedia… It seems more like a blog than an actual wiki. A blog that just happens to have predominantly useful posts.
I can only say that it’s maybe not like the Arch wiki which btw I don’t particularity fancy. It’s the EOS wiki be it what it may serves it’s purpose.
I feel like we could do better.
Discourse (what we use for the forum) can also double as a wiki, its great because the community can help to create/edit pages. The interface don’t change so its probably more maintainable than what we currently have (with a dark mode ) and since we already have some topic that basically are already wiki entries …
I’m sure we could but i don’t think it’s bad. I kinda of feel it’s more conducive for newbies than a structured wiki such as the Arch wiki which is way too technical in nature for many users.
