i only use wm 
I mostly use i3wm bspwm
but i have started using dwm more and more
dwm is awesome
I mess around a bit with herbstluftwm too
herbstluftwm is cool
have install all in one laptop
not in virtualbox

You should write guide how to customize wm ( bswm is my fav)

I do not have much knowledge
i find things online and try to put them together
and change color it can tease sometimes and may take some time
but thought it was fun

2 screens with a little bit of conky at kde plasma
2 years i had xfce as my daily driver, but now i drive with plasma and it feels very good
