There are as lot of fascinating images on NASA’s flyby site

Not to hijack this thread much more, but are these the first pictures ever of the dark side of the moon?

(Stunning either way).

Think Pink Floyd got the first

The first ever. No Human being has ever been so far away from earth

No. The Soviets took some photos via satellite in the late 50’s early 60’s. The Apollo 8 mission in 1968 took some photos and was the first time astronauts viewed the dark side of the moon directly. Not sure if Apollo 13 bothered to take photos when they did the emergency maneuver to head back to earth. Jim Lovell was on Apollo 8 and Apollo 13.

The NASA’s Deep Space Climate Observatory took some detailed photos and video in 2015.

First photo of dark side of the moon taken by Soviet space craft 1959:

Pink Floyd may have contributed to that misconception.

Despite a common misconception, the phrase “dark side of the Moon” does not refer to “dark” as in the absence of light, but rather “dark” as in unseen: until humans were able to send spacecraft around the Moon, this area had never been seen. In reality, both the near and far sides receive, on average, almost equal amounts of light directly from the Sun.

A “new moon,” as seen from Earth, occurs when the moon is between Earth and the Sun, making the side facing us dark. At the same time, the far side of the moon is fully illuminated by the Sun.

I thank Pink Floyd for generally polluting my brain

^^ KEY to my misunderstanding. Thanks for illuminating this no pun intended. I am still happy to see preconceptions can be exploded.

I had a feeling I’d be wrong about “first pics” I know there was some sniffing around there in small doses I just didn’t know in whose capacity since I never truly saw a picture of TDSOTM…as far as the Russian discoveries nothing has quite moved me like the short footages of those 70’s Venus expeditions landing on Venus then the craft filming itself self-immolating seconds after (as the Soviets knew they would). The surface of Venus is haunting and makes Mars look like a golf course.

But I digress. Let me get this back on track. EOS Budgie

Decided to give Solus a go. So far seems nice and everything has been working like a charm. :sailboat:

Been a while since I’ve posted in here. No change to my layout. The only changes are the images and besides the background they are all automated. Still rocking with @dirn’s Plasma icon set

budgie rocks there. enjoy

That’s crazy, just earlier today I was just watching the Silverhawks intro for old-times sake
