Thank you very much for your work! Don’t worry, be happy
@Bryanpwo There is nothing “unprofessional” about the kinds of logistical problems you’ve described. On the contrary, the fact that you devote the time and energy to EOS and to this community is beyond remarkable. THANK YOU!
[FWIW, most of us screw up our own Linux platforms routinely… which only serves to make this forum more indispensible! ]
Finally the forum is online again. I was checking it every 5 minutes or so
@Bryanpwo
Shit happens. Dont worry. Thank you for your engagement!
All good, don’t worry. You are human, not machine. Humans tend to make mistakes and that is good because usually we learn from them. So, see the positive side of it, no need to repeat the same mistake, you know what will happen
Also it is very nice to be back. Inner peace is restored.
@Bryanpwo Glad our community is back online! I usually don’t need anything as EOS just seems to work for me, but admittedly I log on to the forum several times a day to see what’s going on and to maybe learn something. You don’t know how much you miss something until it’s gone
I found the Mastodon post a few days ago so I knew that the EOS web presence would be back eventually, so thanks for keeping us updated, your open honesty and all your hard work!
Adding my vote of no blame, stuff-happens, and a huge thank you to you and the team for everything and all each of you do for us!
I got to spend some time with my family the last few days…actually a nice bunch of people !
Were those ‘family’ people glad to meet you ?
Glad, that you are back! Thanks for all the work you and the team do!
Anything we can do? Seems tough that it’s all on you and there’s no one else who could have done the bits that were only able to be supported by you. That’s a stress no one needs, because you never fully get to rest. No apologies needed and grateful it’s sorted!
Thank you for thinking with us This was a typical case of thinking I could multitask and it all went south in an instant.
there’s post-traumatic thread here Hello, old friend. So glad you're back! :enos_flag: - #44 by milkytwix for survivors of the outage
Eejit
We’re back, and that’s the main thing!
Yeah we’ve all done this before.. It’s a rite of passage.. Glad you managed to get things back! No stress, and absolutely no need to apologise!
Theres a few dozen reassurances and well-wishes above so I wont waste space on that..
But in light of this situation it may be pertinent to consider implementing redundancies.
For a group project and/or public service it often makes sense to have more than one individual ‘hold the keys’ so to speak - especially for infrastructure.
No extra negativity intended.
And if there is nothing that needs changing then so be it.
Just thought it might be worth considering.
of course different staff members have access to the server. The issue was that I locked out with the “master” key, so the others couldn’t reach it also.
Ive locked myself out of my house, a couple of times out of my vehicles, but never out of a server…
Probably cause i don’t have any
Glad everything is up and running again. I really missed the forums the last few days.
It is this community that makes EOS stand out.
I must admit I did start to worry a little… Real glad to see you all back! Thanks for making it possible, and communicating openly.
After 5 days…
