You’re right, only 970 evo plus shipped with 3B2QEXM7 firmware can handle the 4B2QEXM7, others shipped with 1B2QEXM7 or 2B2QEXM7 can’t.
The Olds ones gots Phoenix S4LR020 controller and the new one got Elpis S4LV003 like the 980 pro.
I think the problem or the beginning question is now answered and I have learned how to flash the samsung ssd under Linux
