To summarize:
- Linux performance is below nvidia in most tests. To be fair, doing Linux performance testing this early is a bit misleading since it takes longer for the driver situation to be fully sorted.
- On Windows, the 6800XT mostly exceeds the 3080 in gaming benchmarks without ray tracing.
- As soon as you turn ray tracing on on Windows, nvidia crushes amd with their more mature RT implementation.
To be honest, I think it is a win for AMD just to have products that compete with nvidia at the upper-end of the market even if it isnât the obvious leader we were hoping it would be.
Still looks like a worthwhile upgrade to my RX vega 64 down the road a bit.
If you do, Iâd like to snag that Vega off of you next year!

Sure thing. You may not want it though (not that there is anything wrong with it) The strix cards had a horrendous cooler so I added modifications to keep it cool. The max boost on these is set based of the temps it sees at boot and then will throttle after a certain temperature. There are bios mods but i figured just keep the thing cool in the first place lolâŚ

I didnât like the ray tracing implementation, there is no DLSS, so itâs a huge performance impact if you enable it.
In my opinion, Nvidia is definitely ahead.

Yeah, but DLSS sucks.
I mean itâs very cheap way of masking things and at the same time ruining true quality, and more than that whole idea of implementing RT like Nvidia / AMD doing now is absolute insanity in terms of efficiency, more of my thoughts on that matter 
Well, we have different opinions about that 
Itâs indeed rendering RT in a lower resolution, but the results are very good.
In case of AMD, you donât have that option, if you enable it in 4K, no more 60 FPS.
Nvidia is in the 2nd RT cores gen, itâs the first AMD attempt, it matches the NVIDIA 2000 series RT performance with DLSS disabled.
So, even a 2080 can beat the AMD 6800XT in RT, 4k and 60FPS battle.
Itâs not really an opinion 
Who cares if you can play 4k in 60 FPS with very bad implementation from the start, but if things were done right:
- You wonât even need dedicated hardware
- You could render same scene in 8k 60 FPS without any crap like DLSS and upscaling
Thatâs pure money grab and nothing more, and itâs pretty sad to me that since Nvidia started that trend AMD followed itâŚand lost again, itâs bad for us all in the end anyway.
But i get why you donât care, since things as they are now 
Just give AMD some time, since theyâre not so much actually tied to hardware as Nvidia and open source, their software will improve for stuff similar to DLSSâŚ

Thatâs why Iâm still on 1080p with a GTX 1660 
But if you see the performance/quality, today, comparing side by side, with RT enabled, Nvidia is better.
DLSS is a âhackâ indeed, but itâs a hack well performed.
In the future, I guess they wonât really need it due to the increased performance of the RT cores⌠but today, I would go with Nvidia.
