I wonder if you try setting both at the same time.
xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 144 --primary --output DP-4 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 165 --right-of HDMI-0
nothing special since i first would nee to know how i do add the 2560x1440 144 to HDMI, every new --addmode turns into a DP-5 monitor setting. (my bad i read something i’ll try to redo it)
nvm didn’t worked, i try to --addmode DP-4 2560x14…
xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 144 --primary --output DP-4 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 165 --right-of HDMI-0
xrandr: cannot find mode 2560x1440
I got the same error when trying to use get-edid. Reading the edid’s directly from the system worked better for me. Try this command ls /sys/class/drm/*/edid | xargs -i{} sh -c "echo {}; parse-edid < {}"
/sys/class/drm/card0-DP-1/edid
Partial Read… Try again
/sys/class/drm/card0-DP-2/edid
Partial Read… Try again
/sys/class/drm/card0-DP-3/edid
You seem to have too many extension blocks. Will not continue to parse

If I had to guess, that command only picked up your 60Hz monitor. What about if you only do the first half of that command ls /sys/class/drm/*/edid just the list all of the edid’s.
Is this of any use?
read-edid seems to be outdated. This seems to work better. It read everything without error. OP will need to get it out of the aur though.
I’m no expert on any of this just trying to give some info if it helps?
I’m no expert either. I’m doing the same. I figured. If at least one of these tools reports that the monitor in question could in fact go above 120Hz, then we will have made some headway on this issue.
back, here:
ls /sys/class/drm/*/edid
/sys/class/drm/card0-DP-1/edid /sys/class/drm/card0-DP-3/edid /sys/class/drm/card0-HDMI-A-1/edid
/sys/class/drm/card0-DP-2/edid /sys/class/drm/card0-DVI-I-1/edid
EDIT: xrandr says my monitor is on DP-4 but the list just lists up tp DP-3?
There have been cases in the past where you were able to set the refresh rate to say 120Hz, but you were in reality only getting 60Hz.
The monitor specs i already confirmed.
Maximum Resolution by connector
Optimal Resolution DP
2560x1440@165hz / OC: 2560x1440@170hz
Optimal Resolution HDMI
2560x1440@144hz
Do you know the name / model of the monitor? Perhaps I can look and see if others have had problems with that specific monitor.
mine?
the other one is a Acer S240HL
Mine does the same, but that is fine. DP-2, and DP-3 seem to be the one’s in use on my system going by the /sys directory.
Yeah, I’ll look into those models.
Okay then I thought you had two of the same monitors. I didn’t look up the specs on the acer.
Edit:
The Acer is only rated for 1920x1080@ 60Hz
@Wasting6674 You said you tried a dual boot with Windows? Did it work for you there?
yes if i switch to windows it’s 170hz right away
it also worked a year ago on eos after installing drivers.
it began to vanish after the last big KDE Plasma update few months ago (prob a year ago?), that’s when i stopped usin’ Linux cause a lot of things broke for me, a lot of apps and also my hz etc.
and if read some posts on the inet a lot of ppl say it could be kwin :,D
also my first clean install few days ago it also did work but it was buggy, updated drivers… everything about 120hz gone, today i also tried a clean install but i did reuse my /home, i don’t think it’s something there? ![]()
