Reboot notice

After updating KDE and Cinnamon today with the latest Linux kernel updates, my need to reboot notice was displayed for 1 second or less. Never had time to even read the first word, not an issue for me but maybe a new user.
Thanks Sammiev

I think I noticed that also. I updated to a new kernel and i didn’t even see i needed to reboot.

It’s there for a flash only, don’t blink. :joy:

Mine was also only there for a split second

Same. Just updated and zero notification to reboot. I did anyway.

I noticed the same thing, updated the kernel and didn’t get a reboot notification.

I have just updated and also noticed that the reboot notification came up for less than a second. I paid extra attention to it

And I didn’t even get the reboot prompt.

No reboot notice. . . . re-booted anyways as a matter of caution. . . .

That’s what i thought.

Terminal output: Check if user should be informed about rebooting after certain system package upgrades.
But didn’t notice any reboot information. Maybe it’s this new february fools day challenge, change the kernel on-the-fly without rebooting. Maybe my boss ordered that feature: more work, less time for coffee.

Thanks for the report!
In a quick test I saw the same, need to find the reason.

I noticed I had a new kernel…
and I don’t always look for the message bubble at all (did not see it anyway)
…I look at the 3rd to last line of the update which normally says "let user know to reboot?"
IT WAS NOT THERE

I thought “this is strange after a new kernel...”

EDIT:

of course I read you after posting

that`s a challenge … Only one with fast eye will need to reboot

Thats from here:

but i do not see we changed something there
@manuel ?

Is this on KDE /plasma? Could be something with notification daemon.

Was able to catch the notfication with open it from notfication history only i was no seeing it on update too…

180 milliseconds… fast

180 milliseconds (ms) is 0.18 seconds – less than a fifth of a second.

That’s faster than a human blink (which takes about 300–400 ms). In the digital world, it’s roughly the latency that is noticeable but not extremely disruptive, for example, in online gaming or audio processing.

When I updated my Openbox system I didn’t get the notification either. (Using XFCE4-NOTIFIER)

Im Currently updating my Lenovo Laptop which has XFCE4 on it so will let you know if it happens on that one as well. (Yes I realize its the same notifier for me on both)

update:
yeah it just has the
Check if user..
But no notification that a reboot was needed

seems generally with the used script from our side, manuel is already investigating

Looks like a notification no more works, for whatever reason. I followed the execution and everything else is working as expected, but it fails in the actual notification call.
Our code has not been changed, so maybe some lib has changed.

So more investigation is needed.

thanks for investigating. when GUI balloon message and text output messages both disappear its unusual

Kind of like the “do not ingest” warning on Tide Pods or the “lather, rinse, repeat” instructions on the shampoo bottle!
