what is a lemon? i mean i know the yellow sour thing… but that has nothing to do with the gpu right?
It’s normally applied to cars, but it’s just a general term that means “you got a bad one”. In the US there are laws protecting people around it (again, mainly with cars).
well i do have a bad one. it is sold as the regular product so every card of this type has the same issue and is therefor a lemon…
Thank you for explaining.
Did you not get your card replaced? I thought you had talked about that? There are lots of people with the 5700XT that don’t seem to have this issue of Greenscreening.
the replacement card i got was the same model same issue.
i got the answer to change my OS because it is not a gpu issue so they did not take the card back and told me to use windows 10.
You would think they would know better than that! They didn’t even ask about your power supply?
i told them before sending in the first card.
i changed the psu and the ram to see if the error is from one of those.
could it be the consistence of the psu? i mean i never checked that … i just had one with bronce label…and recently learned about what those labels are about.
Could be. What is the PS in that system? I’ve seen mention (Tom’s Hardware?) that the RX5700 is one of the most demanding cards for a power supply to handle - so you want only the most capable of delivering the juice!
Efficiency ratings (Bronze, Gold, Platinum etc) are an indicator - but I use them as a guide to how much effort they put into the REST of the specs - like Japanese caps, and stable power rails. I’ve been building my own systems since the 90’s, and while you can cheap out in lots of places without too much consequence, the power supply is NOT one of them! I buy solid brands, with some headroom (not lots) and I have only lost 1 along the way (after 11 years).
Definitely I would check into the specs of the PS in your case, and see what the builder sites say about it, and your card…
It can’t be just a lemon if you’ve tried a swap already
Well there are others that have the 5700 XT and don’t seem to say anything about this issue.
i did not get the xt so i don’t know about this model.

some of the specs that seem to be useful. I might get a new one next year for a different gpu then…
and yea. it is not a single lemon. it is a lemon hardware series by AS(s)US .they had to fix that with software doing the down-clocking. so the card gets throttled down to prevent overheating. i have to do that manually otherwise i am down to ca. 2 Minutes in-game and i see green ![]()
Did you try radeon.dpm=0 as a kernel parameter?
Edit: That may or may not work but i found this post#18 & #20
i never did anything to the kernel myself. the Forum link you provided did not get me much news i did not know already.
the ram does get too hot for me too (without DCing the fucking card)
As soon as i start any game i have 100% of fanspeed to prevent the greens to happen again.
Ya that’s not good. I have an RX 590 and the fans don’t even spin. Same with my Nvidia GTX 1060 although i’m not playing games.
So far after a long time of struggling i am now at a point of no Problems happening anymore… or so far as i tested with this trash card.
i tried to get all the firmware updates for the whole bunch of hardware the pc runs.
first of all we need a windows trash system setup for doing this.
for this GPU firmware update DO NOT use the official upgrader. It wasted the gpu and I had to rescue it with a third party flash tool and a downloaded rom file for the card.
Trash card? What brand is it. How did you try to update the firmware on it? Just curious. You don’t like this RX 5700 or this Brand or just because you’ve had issues with it?
Imho if you go for AMD go always for Sapphire (I like their cooling solution)
Yes …Sapphire RX 590 Gold Edition

asus EVO 5700 8GB (dual fan). but i am never gonan get any asus trash for pc hardware.
