Printer prints on both sides even if it's off in settings

I managed to install EndeavourOS on an old Dell I had. Printing set up fine, but the only issue I have is that when sending multiple pages, the printer prints them double-sided no matter what. I have duplex printing disabled in CUPS.
How do I fix this?
Printer is a Brother HL-L2340DW, correct drivers installed.

crtl + p then you see this, correct?:

Iā€™m in budgie. standard print settings dialogue after you hit ctrl+p. I have a Bro2315.

If this doesnā€™t do it for you, as you say, I would ask the board ā€˜what governs/over-rides the print settings?ā€™ This is a mystery.
Unless printing is handled via old dell dialogue boxes? i.e. two sets of settingsā€¦? OS and Dell? something old is retaining these settings.

a workaround was the odd pages, flip paper, even pages but I know thatā€™s a concentration PITA.

I have the 2315 AUR package installed. assume you do as well.
Good luck. Hope you get more suggestions.

To see that dialog, I have to go to Firefox and click ā€œprint from system dialogā€, and it shows that
All settings are like yours, except Paper size is ā€œna_letterā€

still wonder if this is a .conf or dell over-ride hierarchy or something non-imaginary.

If this was driving me crazy, and these things drive me crazy, I would do two file searches.
The word ā€˜printā€™ in /home, then the word ā€˜printā€™ in /root. See what sticks out at you.
Something is over-riding your system print settings I have no idea what it could be. You said you poked around in cups? maybe duplex irrelevant?

the only other thing I can think of is if you have conflicting info in the print dialogue box. my pic above has 7 tabsā€¦

searched the file system, nothing looks out of place. Lots of folders relating to random print stuff, but they only contain things like ā€œsomething.hā€ and the files not in folders are svgs, pngs, etc.

the only other thing I can think of is ā€˜duplex offā€™ is not good enough. is there no two-sided/one-sided dialogue that I got?
do you have print management installed from repo? I did a recent Endeavour re-install and had to bring in a print package althought I thought I had everything I needed from the live install. plus of course I added the AUR package for my 2315.

Not sure you have conditions like ^^ this?

edit: my new install was Cinnamon. what was yours? maybe relevant, maybe not.

The ā€œtwo-sided/one-sidedā€ is set to one-sided.
I donā€™t think I have print management installed, unless CUPS counts as that?
I installed KDE Plasma. I also have the AUR package for the printer.

this one is connected over network or usb?
As it will not need any driver package installed and works driverless.
With this it will use the pintserver on the device you can reach this over your browser too and in caseā€¦ its set to default to doublesided printing.

If it is USB I wonder if there is a way to change the double-sided default? But I will wait for them to answer.

It is connected over network. It needed a driver, because the printer wasnā€™t being detected without it. In the printer settings, there is no option for double side printing on or off

Is there not a setting on the printer itself that sets double sided printing in the printer settings?

If I change the setting on the printer itself, then it will disable double-sided for all other computers. On Brotherā€™s website, it says to configure it using the OSā€™s built in settings. I also read to change the driverā€™s settings, but I couldnā€™t find a way to configure the Linux driver.

on the printserver?

mine is the 2350DW but should not be much difference.
But to use driverless you need to enable cups-browsed and local hostname resolution must be enabled:
https://discovery.endeavouros.com/network/printers/2021/03/#network-printer

and in case you are on home network not in public or office you should enable firewalld home zone for the connection at home.

This is what shows for me, I donā€™t know the default login password.

Iā€™ll try what you wrote

The default log-in password to manage device settings is either

the password preceded by the back or bottom of the device and the " Pwd "

OR

initpass

If I turn this off, then no other devices on my network will be able to print double-sided.
If the problem is too hard or thereā€™s not much information, it is fine, I can just print individual pages. I only posted to see if there was a known problem or fix.

strange, i have also 6 other devices in the Network using the printer, Windows Android and Linux , and if i have it set to doublesided they all have the issue that it will always print double sided, also if the set to single side printing on clients.

I donā€™t know thenā€¦ is there anything else I could do?

you never said this out loud, but everytime I read this thread you mention network, other users (ā€œall other computersā€)ā€¦Is really sounds like you have an admin somewhere, a human that set this all up that you can consult?

Also since you have the admin password why canā€™t you set to 2-sided off, print your stuff, and walk back to your computer and change back to 2-siided on. Is it a proximity thing?

no, itā€™s just me.

That would be too much of a hassle. Iā€™ll just deal with it when I need to print.
