I have an AM4 board sitting here so i’ll be getting a Ryzen 5700G for now to rebuild an older Intel quad core. It’s cheaper to do that than buy a graphics card. If you’re not a gamer i think that is the way to go. I would get Intel also with onboard graphics just because of the cost of graphics cards. The newest AMD I know will be awesome.
Price is everything in my opinion, everything is so expensive due to the problems we are all aware…
There is a possibility that AMD cuts price a little bit to get more competitive with this new Intel 12th gen
Also, AM4 with extra cache is coming
Yes… i look forward to see what they have up their sleeve.
stuff is getting out of control…
Are you putting a mini-ITX board into a mid-tower case?
Once you learn that ‘stuff’ will expand to fill the space available, life gets easier…(some). I’ve lived in a 1 bedroom apt, and a 3+ bedroom house - and I had more spare room in the apt!
mini itx board is coming out for the X570 to go in
My fingers are too fat, and my eyes too old to even consider that! Maybe I could supervise a kid to build a system with that!
I DO like X570 in my current system though
this used to be easy … but yeah, suddenly my fingers are big and fumbly and I can’t see what I’m doing half the time cause my glasses keep sliding down! This custom build stuff might be a young person’s game
I never had a problem until my latest build - and then I even messed up adding in the RAM (I couldn’t SEE it wasn’t in right - took it out and put it in wrong again!) Not sure if I’ll try again - if this setup doesn’t see me out, of course.
This week, for the first time in my life, I ordered a custom built gaming PC.
I basically paid extra to have someone else build a PC for me. Not because I was lazy, but because I couldn’t find the GPU any other way after 6 months of trying.(Technically, I could have bought one from a scalper but I make a practice of not doing that).
That being said, I have a built a lot of PCs over the years. While I don’t hate building PCs myself, it stopped being enjoyable long ago. I am curious to see how this build comes out. I wouldn’t normally do it this way because it is definitely more expensive but I am looking forward to getting a PC and being able to use it right away.
Says AI…
just got it up and running … only ran into one small snag … 4x16GB sticks of memory … one is bad after about 2 minutes of run time - followed by a long game of ‘process of elimination’ - now we’ll see how helpful my retailer is?
That sucks…glad you found it quickly though.
I wonder why? I see a beverage in the middle.
Yes… The mini ITX gets the boot!
Please tell us what you got?
The mini-ITX got the boot and I retired the ASUS C60M1-i apu/mb combo. (anybody looking for a cheap, low power board for a light duty home file server?) …
I went with my original list of new parts/pieces…
ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Pro ATX
Ryzen 7 5700G APU
G.Skill 64GB PC-3600 CL16 memory
AOC 34" LED Monitor CU34G2X
… and I recycled a bunch of stuff from some existing servers:
Crucial 256G SSD (my system drive)
2x 2TB Seagate NAS drives
4x 3TB Seagate RED NAS drives
I just got it all put together, so no real read yet … of course it seems great at the moment given that I skipped a few generations of CPU/GPU
… and that beverage was entirely critical to the process … I needed some sighting fluid to help me line up all of the little parts
I have 32 GB of memory on both my systems. I did want 64 but settled on 32. Next time maybe. I have an X570 board but its an MSI paired with the 3800X and AMD RX 590. Interested in the 5700G how it works. I’m sure it will be awesome.
16gb is enough for me
Sometimes when I use handbrake or qbittorrent I get a few MB swap usage, but it is very rare
Edit: Maximum tabs in the browser is around 25 tabs…
