I still havent received the update… doing yay or sudo pacman -Syy
Update your mirrors and try again.
Isn’t yay
a pacman wrapper with support for AUR?
You would get totally different output in the terminal to interact with when using yay to install a package from the regular repos or from AUR. For example:
From EnOS’ repo (in pacman.conf):
yay -S akm
[sudo] password for pebcak:

looking for conflicting packages…Packages (5) endeavouros-theming-6.5-1 eos-bash-shared-1.9.8-1 eos-translations-1.1.37-1 yad-eos-10.1-1 akm-2.8.8-2
Total Download Size: 2.00 MiB
Total Installed Size: 2.82 MiB:: Proceed with installation? [Y/n]
From AUR:
yay -S google-chrome-beta
:: Checking for conflicts…

[Aur:1] google-chrome-beta-94.0.4606.20-1:: Downloaded PKGBUILD (1/1): google-chrome-beta

I fail to see how a user would fail to distinguish between the two.
Which updates are you waiting for?
This new release? Or is it just fresh install related?
No change.
I’m sorry I thought you were trying to update a package. The ISO is a new download. You don’t have to reinstall. This is just a new updated ISO.
If you want the wallpapers or the new app, just follow the instructions given in the announcement.
No, it is an AUR helper with support for repo packages, which is does using pacman.
My mindset when using an AUR helper is completely different than using pacman.
I never blindly trust AUR packages, I never blindly update AUR packages, I always check AUR comments and AUR PKGBUILD changes first.
AUR packages are different and require more caution & care when installing / updating. Therefore, when using an AUR helper only for AUR packages, I am automatically more careful and mindful of what I am doing.
For repo packages why would anyone not use pacman, and use an inferior tool with a subset of features? That makes no sense to me.
As for using something like yay to do a full system update, repo and AUR packages, blindly … Arch is not set and forget and Arch is not idiot proof. Eventually something will break.
Ohhhh, I thought this was a big version upgrade to the OS. Damn.
EndeavourOS is rolling. Constantly updating. You can change the theming , background or what ever you want. There are no version updates. New ISO has been updated and has a whole new framework which makes it much quicker to install.
This is from man yay

NAME
yay - AUR Helper written in goSYNOPSIS
yay [options] [targets]yay <search terms> yay
DESCRIPTION
Yay is a Pacman wrapper with AUR support. It passes options to Makepkg and Pacman after resolving packages to install/upgrade.
I understand and respect your way, but I don’t necessarily agree with it. Even updating the system with yay
, you will get packages from the repo updated first and then from AUR which might require special attention/intervention.
Anyways there is no one THE way. These are different ways to arrive at the same place as long as you know your own way.
I use yay myself to install, update, & remove etc. I also use pamac the odd time. Nothing wrong with it as long as you know the tools and how they work and their limitations if any. There are many ways to accomplish the same task. Some just work better than others.
Pacman is Arch’s package manager, the best in Linux, and should be used IMHO whenever possible. Using a subset of its features through a wrapper makes no sense, other than potentially laziness.
This is going off topic for this thread. Agree to disagree.

Ohhhh, I thought this was a big version upgrade to the OS. Damn
Welcome to Arch. There’s no such thing as “big version upgrade” necessarily, unless it’s something from a DE like from GNOME 3.38 to 40 for instance.
If you’re up to date, you’re already up to date. Arch updates their iso on their website monthly. But they aren’t so much as an update, but more just like a snapshot in time.
2 posts were split to a new topic: Issue starting/creating installer ISO
Congrats on the new release team.
@Bryanpwo @manuel no worries guys. I had downloaded it before release xD
Just wanted to inform you for “typo” , in case if others had issue
Btw, awesome release , it is so smooth. Installation went smooth and fast, like really fast. I like minimal KDE iso, without bloated apps
Great move in removing KDE system monitor and including Glances
Awesome work guys, I really like it ( @joekamprad )
