Numlock state not being respected at login

This might be a KDE issue(?) but, since I am new to KDE/EndeavorOS/Wayland, I thought I would start here.

The numlock state is not being respected at login. It is always off even though it was on in the previous session. I note that under “Settings > Keyboard” the “NumLock on startup” is set to “Leave unchanged” so I expect that this is intended to retain whatever setting was last used but that isn’t happening.

I found this article NumLock on startup not working in KDE Plasma and followed that solution (clicking the “Apply Plasma Settings…” under “SDDM”) but it did not fix it. Even though it specifically states “This will make the SDDM login screen reflect your customization… Numlock Preference” the numlock state is always off when I log in.

Launch the “System Settings” app.
In the left hand column, click on “Keyboard”
then choose how num lock is to be handled.

To see the available options, click on the down arrow on the right. Which are
Turn on
Turn off
Leave unchanged

Set to Turn On if you want num lock active

There’s also a small package numlockx that can switch the state. Should work on any DE with x11.

Thanks for the reply. But in my second paragraph, I explained in my post that this is set to “Leave unchanged”. Shouldn’t this be the correct setting so that it leaves it as it was the last time, whether on or off? Or maybe I don’t understand the purpose of that setting?

I think it leaves it unchanged from boot which may be set to off in your bios.

Yes, your explanation appears correct. I set it to “On” and numlock is now on at login. Thanks.
