problem… I can’t hear the audio in the linked video…
but I did try a few commands:

Alsa mixer seems to be showing the proper sound cards,

Screw it, just going to re-install… again

In Linux world reinstall doesn’t help at all, it won’t magically work…

Except that it did, sound is working fine now

could be network issue or mirror problems while the first install…

Well glad it did, but you must have messed something up really hard then, usually if:

  1. Something gone wrong which worked before
  2. You can determine reason of what gone wrong through your actions (let’s say update or configuration change)

It’s very easy to fix / revert on Linux, without reinstalling anything.

fresh re-install

Or i just misunderstood you at first
I thought fresh reinstall meant it was working before and you’ve tried to fix it with re-install

You know as well as anyone else regardless of Linux, Winfows, OSX bad installs happen for what seems like no reason.

Several things can be easily overlooked leading to a bad installation. Badly prepared install media, not checking the checksum of the iso download, and not updating the mirrors on the live usb prior to installation.

Now, we’ll never know what was wrong. :disappointed: But at least your problem is fixed.

After the basic install it was working, i installed lot… and I mean a LOT of things, did a reboot and suddenly it wasn’t working,
it was late, I had just finished reinstalling because of a totally different screw-up I made, and I was frustrated. Figured I hadn’t restored my backups or anything yet so…

I have this habit of tinkering with things, and then they break… It’s kind of why I like arch.

It must of happened between installed a LOT of things and screw-up I made, and I was frustrated.

We have all been there trust me! Just try Deepin for a while!

Glad you got it fixed!

Greetings friends,

This has happened to me before on my new laptop and sadly remains unresolved.

I run endeavour on my desktop without any problems.

My new laptop, an x360 - 15.6 hybrid, has been a nightmare.

I really like EOS and was sad that I couldn’t make it work. I have tried the online help from arch for similar sound issues to no avail. I have tried the latest EOS installer as well, no sound.

Here is a list of the distros I have tried:

EOS KDE: above results. installs fine, but no sound. Bluetooth worked.
Debian 10.6 nonfree iso: no network card detected, could not install.
Manjaro 20.1: installs fine, no sound, bluetooth worked.
MX KDE: sound is present, but could not install hybrid graphics module.
Fedora 32: no sound, installs fine.
deepin: would not load for some reason (md5sum ok) - i was mostly interested in the reported improvement in fingerprint scanner detection.
Solus: installed fine with sound, but after eopkg upgrade (new 5.7 kernel), sound went away!
KaOS: installed fine, no sound.

POP_OS!: The only distribution that has worked with both sound and hybrid graphics. No bluetooth. No fingerprint. 4K working fine. Battery life great AFTER i did not encrypt whole disk (just user directory - this made a large difference in fan noise and battery life curiously).

It is my observation that pop has the oldest kernel of the bunch. I am concerned that if I upgrade, my sound may go away.

I am a little distraught about this issue, given the amount of time spent on this laptop. Thought about returning it, but I really got a nice machine for the price with 4k, etc… Also, Hp spectre line is pretty high-volume device, one would think? This after years of running debian fine on the prior generation 13 inch.

Anyone having similar issues? Thoughts for the future?

There is no sound

You have to install: sof-firmware
It is in Extra as shown here with a search.

[ricklinux@eos-plasma ~]$ yay -Ss sof-firmware
extra/sof-firmware 1.6-1 (602.4 KiB 7.3 MiB)
    Sound Open Firmware
[ricklinux@eos-plasma ~]$

Edit: Looks like it’s installed on PopOS but not on the others?

thank you once again ricklinux,

as always, you are prompt and most helpful.

i installed this module previously to no avail.

perhaps i can try again with your new disc.

how can i try this on the livecd before committing to a complete installation?

thanks again!

Does the audio not work on the live usb?

no

I’m not sure if you boot on the live usb and try installing it.

sudo pacman -S sof-firmware

Edit: I’m surprised that it didn’t work if you installed it before?

Edit2: Maybe you can also give me the output for this.

inxi -Fxxxa --no-host

It should work on EndeavourOS if you install the sof-firmware which is required for that particular Intel Audio chip. Not sure why it didn’t if as you say you installed it other than looking to see that the correct audio device is selected for output. So it may have been there but on the wrong device. You should be able to check that by right click on volume icon and configure audio device to see if the correct one is selected.

Edit: Hope this helps.
