New-To-Me Custom Built PC / GPU Journey

New-To-Me Custom Built PC

A friend of mine finished building a brand new gaming rig, so he offered me the one he is replacing for (U.S.)$200. So, I have a question you gamers and video editors here on the EOS Forum…

The video card in this rig is a Nvidia Quadro K2200 from 2011. I need something much better than that. I do a lot of image creating and editing, I edit videos (mostly through Kdenlive and/or Shotcut), and I’d like to get back into PC gaming more regularly. Games I tend to gravitate to are sports (FIFA, MAdden and so forth), and some of the story based games like Detroit: Become Human and Red Dead Redemption.

I’m personally interested in this from Nvidia.

I look forward to any input y’all can offer!

MSI Based Gaming PC, he said it’s about 4 years old.

  • Corsair case, mid-tower size
  • MB: MSi Z370 GAMING M5
  • PSU: Corsair CX750M
  • CPU: Intel i7-8700k 3.7GHz
  • GPU: Nvidia Quadro K2200 - I NEED THIS GONE!
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • STORAGE: : Samsung 960 EVO 500GB SSD
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro

Images he sent me of it on his work bench. He’s going to clean the enclosure and send it next week. The inside is already nearly immaculate. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS!!

Hello @UncleSpellbinder!

Be Aware that the RX 7600 has only x8 not x16 one the PCI-E Bus Connection, you don’t want this. It is at this board only PCI-E 3.0 x8.

Thanks for the heads-up!!!

Edited OP. Any recommendations for AMD are still MORE than welcomed!

What about an RX 6700 XT or an RX 7700 XT? Both are x16.

7700 XT is a bit out of my price range, though the 6600 XT is closer to my budget. I’ll investigate further.

6600 XT has also only x8 and also “only” 8 GB. :frowning:

Radeon RX 6700 XT Graphics Card?

would be okay. x16 and 12 GB Vram.

Your PSU also would support it. The CX750M (if you have the PCE-E Cable of this exact unit support up to 4x 8 Pin)

Look there at: “CX750M DC CABLES”

What type of games will you be playing and at what resolution?

I’m assuming that will be replaced with EndeavourOS? :enos_flag:

Not sure, to be honest. But THIS is what is installed now, that I want to replace…

Bus Interface - PCIe 2.0 x16

Probably just better to stick with what Bus Interface I know is working.

At least the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is Bus Interface - PCIe 4.0 x16

Your Mainboard supports up to PCIe 3.0 x16. Just make sure that the GPU supports X16 and atleast is 3.0 or higher.

Seems the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 having a Bus Interface - PCIe 4.0 x16 is also out of the running then.

I definitely have some investigating to do.

No. The RTX 3060 would also be fine. 4.0 x16 is fine on your board it will go down to 3.0 x16.

Sorry I missed that, still waking up.

I think Madden has kernel anti-cheat on it, most other sports games will as well but it will be worth to check. I started “Detroit: Become Human” that works well on Linux and I’ve played Red Dead Redemption on Linux.

At what resolution will you be gaming, that could have an effect on what gpu’s you buy.

Ahhhh. Ok. So the most important thing is the 16. I’m still learning all this. I’ve only owned pre-built PCs. So this is new territory for me. Appreciate the advice and help!

At least 1080p. I know each game can have a gazillion settings to use and tweak. Plus, the BIOS settings for the MSi Z370 GAMING M5 is loaded with settings…
