New Nvme SSD: have I done everything correctly?

Hi there,

I would love some help, if possible.

I purchased a 1 TB Kingston NVME SSD, model SNV2S/1000G.

Well, I used GPT, formated it as ext4, created a mount point (/dev/nvme0n1p1 to /home/user/SSD2). and added it to /etc/fstab.

The reason I am opening this topic is because the Gnome disks utility despite the SSD being working Ok, does not shows its size, as well as don’t allows me to see SMART data (SMART options are grey, unavailable).

So, is this really ok?

Also, lsblk displays the new SSD as /nvme0n1/nvme0n1p1, but Gparted, for example, shows /dev/nvme0n1p1 (and this last one is what I used on /etc/fstab).

So, is everything really Ok?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds fine to me.

That is normal. By default lsblk is showing the name. If you want to see the device, you can use

lsblk -o path,size,type,fstype,mountpoint

Ah, I think I understood.

Ok, thank you very much.

No.

Why?

It’s worst possible option to get, i seriously advice you to at least regularly backup your data on something more reliable (anything but Kingston) that is physically another disk (if you care about your data), and even then if unrecoverable errors will happen - there’s no guarantees you’ll be able to spot it right away and data will be ok.

Understood.

Well, it was the option I get here accordingly to my budget. :frowning:

I do constant backups, both locally and to the cloud. Let’s see.

Remember that when you backup something to the  backup - it is nothing more than someone else’s computer

Sure.
