Nautilus & Gnome Settings (Dark Mode) - libadwaita update

There was an update to libadwaita today:

[2023-09-20T10:07:19-0500] [ALPM] upgraded libadwaita (1:1.3.5-1 -> 1:1.4.0-1)

that was preventing dark mode from working in Nautilus, Gnome settings, etc.

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface color-scheme prefer-dark

or using dconf-editor and forcing dark mode wasn’t resolving the issue either. a downgrade and logout/login worked for me. just a heads up for anyone else encountering this.

Anyone else can reproduce?
I can check later…

Working on my vanilla Arch VM, upgraded this morning.

There’s a bug report referencing the issue on :

unlike that poster, I do have the packages mentioned:

xdg-desktop-portal-gnome 44.2-1
gnome-session 44.0-1

I would also be interested if anyone else is experiencing the same problem.

I had it too. The text editor could be persuaded manually to darkmode, but the console and especially Nautilus remained bright as day. :sunglasses: :exploding_head:

So if install that then this will fix my issue?(I have this issue as well)

Thanks!

I had the same issue after yesterday’s upgrade. I just downgraded to libadwaita-1:1.3.5-1-x86_64 and after a reboot all was fine.

I installed xdg-desktop-portal updated libadwaita to 1.4.0 and all is right with the world again.

Es stehen 8 Anbieter für xdg-desktop-portal-impl zur Verfügung:
:: Repositorium extra
   1) xdg-desktop-portal-dde 2) xdg-desktop-portal-gnome 3) xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
   4) xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland 5) xdg-desktop-portal-kde 6) xdg-desktop-portal-lxqt 7) xdg-desktop-portal-wlr
   8) xdg-desktop-portal-xapp

nothing has worked

Unless I’m misunderstanding, remove the last hyphened portion, -impl and search for xdg-desktop-portal

autocomplete yields 9 options:

sudo pacman -Syu xdg-desktop-portal
xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal-gtk xdg-desktop-portal-lxqt
xdg-desktop-portal-dde xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland xdg-desktop-portal-wlr
xdg-desktop-portal-gnome xdg-desktop-portal-kde xdg-desktop-portal-xapp

you want xdg-desktop-portal

Worked @joekamprad

Thank you!

I already realize that, only when I wanted to install xdg-desktop-portal, this list of 8 versions was only offered.

After I slept for a few hours, next try: This time xdg-desktop-portal could be installed, but no improvement.reboot made - also nothing …

What is there again for ne shit run?

you need to choose one of the implementations fitting your Desktop Environment in addition to xdg-desktop-portal (base) package.
So choose gnome there… what will be 2

Or do it explicitly…

sudo pacman -S xdg-desktop-portal-gnome xdg-desktop-portal

This exactly 2 packages needs to be installed.
