FWIW, my experience is that of my 6 machines running Arch KDE, all using the LTS kernel, only one had this issue. The other five were unaffected. I have no explanation for the one with the issue, as it is configured similarly to the others and comprises similar hardware of similar age.

So the config lands in cache. Same thing would be achieved by logging out and back in again, I guess.
Yes, but JUST THERE is where the whole problem happens.
Did you consider filing a bug at KDE dev-site? (Again??!) …

I find on Kde when ever i have updates or i make changes i always either reboot or log out and back in depending on what it is. I find this necessary if changing things like icons and or themes. Also depending if updates are for Kde or other Arch based packages.

I also do this frequently with updates when it doesn’t seem necessary. This is because I want to see whether the desktop settings still exist.
