Make Dolphin Use Recoll "kio_recoll" Installed

In dolphin.

That is dolphin. It is just not the entire application. It a screenshot of the address bar, the contents and the bottom bar.

I got a second nice reply from the developer Jean-Francois about Recoll and Dolphin.
He says it works fine with Dolphin, just in the address bar enter:
recoll: search term

I tried:

  • recoll: searchterm
  • recoll:searchterm
But I got an error saying Invalid protocol.

I feel we are much closer now.
Jean-Francois is a real nice guy. I really wish he joins us here.

UPDATE:
I search and found Invalid protocol in Dolphin means it needs ā€œkde-baseappsā€
I will do now and see!

-> Could not find all required packages:
        kde-baseapps (Target)

What did you use for a search term? You don’t use recoll: search term. serchterm is what you are trying to search for.

Oh no… ! I used a real word I know it is there.
A unique word I invented and I could actually search for it in Recoll app and it returned results.
My searching for a solution it seems it needs " kde-baseapps" but.. it is not there!
Maybe in another library or so, different name?!

I feel we are almost there. We just need to fix the ā€œInvalid protocolā€

Just wanted to make sure you actually entered a searchterm or phrase.

I understand… it is OK.
Hope we fix this invalid protocol

The issue is your plugin is in the wrong location. However, even placing it in the correct location yields no results. You can see from screen shot that I did exactly that.

I wonder if it works with as recent a version of dolphin/kio as we have in Arch.

That is hopelessly outdated info.

I have the plugin installed to correct location and am not getting an error. It just never returns any results.

How are you contacting him? I can reach out to him and give him the information directly.

Jean-Francois (JF from now on) said it is working with him.
We are missing something… but I feel we are almost there.

That would be a great idea… real pros talking to each other.
I am contacting via his email at their website

In my first email I gave him a link to this thread.

If I may dream loud with you, I am dreaming of having Recoll the default instead of Baloo in BTRFS in particular.

This would be a great addon for EndeavourOS, BTRFS, Recoll,… (what else).
Honestly, I hope he joins us.

hmmm… which plugin… which location… or which wrong location…
I just installed using yay
How come it goes to the ā€œwrongā€ location!
Sorry… I do not understand this… I am a beginner anyway and no expert.

Working for him, where? There is a huge difference between working on one distro vs another. We all have different versions of everything.

That isn’t how kio slaves work. That would require dolphin itself making changes.

You didn’t, you manually modified an old PKGBUILD for kio_recoll that was targeting kde4. That made it install, but didn’t make it install properly.

This is getting highly philosophical now. I wonder where @limotux is getting us all in to… could it be that his intent is that of some jolly satire? I kept bursting with laughter a couple times, only reading…

I don’t know which distro he uses or where.

I thought of something like that… maybe Dolfin developers would consider this especially that Baloo devs are not giving attention to their issues with BTRFS.

Sorry… again… I am no techie… I remember now… I just followed instructions provided… I thought these would be the defaults and OK.

A comedic motto, indeed!

Good luck with that, let me know how it goes…

No need to apologize. I will gladly share proper instructions if I can actually get it working.

There is no sense in me sharing something that will just move you to a different state of broken.

I am not blaming anyone for anything… on the contrary… I appreciate all the help I always have here.

Sure… I always say and always trust you. Everything is working perfectly till now.

I tried installing recollrunner… but it is quite old… could not meet dependencies…

Recollrunner itself, not only the AUR package hasn’t been updated. It probably doesn’t work anymore with modern KDE.

It also had nothing to do with dolphin. It was for krunner integration.
