On https://endeavouros.com/ both the magnet and torrent links are torrent files, but from different mirrors
Not sure what you are trying to say, but just in case you don’t know what a magnet link is.
Generally clicking a magnet starts to download process, @Viera is correct, it downloads it, I noticed this, but thought it too minor to bother about.
OP is right, the supposed magnet link point to a .torrent file.
Well I don’t mind because I don’t use torrents as a rule. ![]()
Why? Torrent or rather BitTorrent is great for downloading big files fast.
Also Magnet link will point to a torrent without the torrent file in a more secure way:
“A magnet link, also known as a magnet URI, is a method to make downloading a torrent file an easier activity. Prior to this, the files to be downloaded needed to be assigned hashes to prevent corrupt files from being traded out for the real files to be downloaded.
With a magnet link, the link for the download is a simpler process. It does not require a special .torrent file, but rather is a simple text hyperlink.”
Fast download since a lot of people are seeding and less load on the servers is a positive to me.
Well I am not in the habit of downloading a live iso several times a hour or day, or whatever. And I can not imagine that there is a great number of people that do just that, so the load on the servers is not a real argument to me. And there have been people that have got into trouble because they downloaded some torrent from a suspicious peer in the past, don’t know how it is safety wise today though.
Maby but that’s why it’s safer with magnet link and if you are paranoid(like me
) use a good VPN(like Mullvad).
Also it’s wise to make sure your BitTorrent program use Encryption on all.
Like what qBitTorrent has.
Well that is a lot of trouble going through for a download you only do once or twice (in my case that is). ![]()
Also this is not any “illegal” file it’s a Linux Distros ISO dl as a Torrent witch is legal to use(alot of companies use it).
i will fix ![]()
can someone validate its working now? my ISP does not allow any torrenting so i can not test at the moment..
seems to be working for me.
Working properly.
Yup, it’s working.
It’s not just a question of resource overhead. Servers cost money to host and they come with limits, that cost money to raise.
For example, I could spin up a mirror on my preferred cloud hosting provider, that includes 1000GB data transfer per month. With the current EndeavourOS image sitting at about 3.2GB, that’ll provide just a little over 300 downloads a month, and that’s assuming this’ll be the only thing the server is providing.
Given that server would be the only mirror in the continent (currently), I’d better hope there aren’t more than 300 downloads for that period! Of course, I could spend more and increase the limit, but here in lies why torrents do in fact help reduce load on these servers.
Yeah the data storage on a server is pretty cheap usually, but the bandwidth…
always noticed, but never minded it
