M1 looks pretty amazing

Overall, the M1’s GPU starts off very strong here. At both Normal and High settings it’s well ahead of any other integrated GPU, and even a discrete Radeon RX 560X. Only once we get to NVIDIA’s GTX 1650 and better does the M1 finally run out of gas.

seems that the gpu isnt desktop class really but it is still impressive

Seems like my analysis too. They’ve always been making devent GPU’s, and most integrated GPUs on laptops aren’t that good to begin with. Really, I want to see a comparison with the 11th gen Intel XE graphics, which are pretty capable.

If we can somehow integrate Zen3 CPUs with Intel XE graphics, that would be the dream Laptop Chip.

Not sure it’s really needed. Vega seems to offer a pretty good competition to Xe.

Xe seems to do a tad better (ranging from +3% to +30%) in most games on high res, high settings, but that is mostly irrelevant because both chips offer unplayable experience with those settings.
So, if looking only in the playable frame rate range Vega outperforms Xe.

Truly impressive results for what the M1 is.

With regard to latest comments Apple does seem to place more importance to it’s laptops and has done for a long time. Their whole philosophy has always been simplicity and home computing. I know they can do servers but it’s never been a priority. I like how they offer good deals on education however.

esp since this is their initial offering. ver the next several years, one would expect it to improve beyond where it is now. Really want to see the new mac desktops once they are ready…

I think it’s pretty impressive for a start! I wouldn’t say the same for Intel’s SOC offerings.

You see where this is going? Apple will eventually unify iOS and MacOS and phones and desktops will become one. Others will have no option but to follow in order to stay competitive. I don’t like it because it dumbs down the user experience. I would rather have OSX than iOS, and rather have a Linux desktop than OSX. I want customisation and freedom. What Apple are doing with their offering makes total sense and makes Microsoft look like a dinosaur in comparison but I want my control, not their control. I applaud their innovation and vision but I don’t like being locked into a system.

I doubt widows would be able to compete with apple in this new lower powered higher performing arm processors. Windows is better off sticking to what they know and improving how they do it.

Frankly, i never much cared for mac os. i hate the dock being on the bottom of my screen/ left right or top but not bottom. ios is nice for phones and tanlets but i dont want a desktop that works the way ios does but i also dont care for mac os configs.

Best we can hope for is that linux adapts to the new tech and finds a way to install their software on the new apple machines, even if it a dual boot, even if it wipes the apple warranty and we can never reinstall apple os on it again. Linux would do well to conquer this beast sooner rather than later.

beats them in speed and on the battery drain. nicely done. We need one of these running an arch based distro soon. i suspect having everything being soldered in has the added benefit of preventing that from happening…

When it came time to export, I selected max settings and timed it. The 46-second clip, exported at an 8K, 7680 x 4320 resolution with an Apple ProRes 422 HQ codec for a file size total of 16.41 GB, took two minutes and eight seconds. The same clip on my 2016 MacBook Pro took over four minutes to export, and when it was done, I couldn’t play it because it was skipping frames. On the M1 MacBook Pro, I was able to press play immediately and watch the same clip without any stuttering, dropped frames, or other issues.

Case closed

just wow… pretty much all american companies suck…

the title need a little work for the video because it looked like by the title that apple was advocating against forced labor instead of advocating against the bill that is against forced labor
