Love Light Themes? Meet Polar Gleam for Plasma 6!

LOL! Thanks :slight_smile:

Regarding the window decorator, the title text is the part I previously mentioned that can’t be made color scheme-friendly. However, you can customize it by editing the ActiveTextColor value in ~/.local/share/aurorae/themes/Polar-Gleam-Aurorae/Polar-Gleam-Auroraerc and setting it to a light color.

[General]
ActiveTextColor=59,66,82 <-- this for active window border
Animation=0
InactiveTextColor=130,130,140 <-- and this for inactive window border
LeftButtons=XIA

The button color is meant for the light theme. If you want to use it on the dark theme to your liking, you can edit the button .svg files in the same Polar-Gleam-Aurorae location I mentioned above. Please take note, I did not publish my dark theme as there are too many beautiful dark theme out there in Pling :slight_smile:

The Plasma style is color scheme-friendly, so you can create a new Plasma color scheme that matches your existing dark Kvantum and Konsole themes if you want to mix and match consistently.

Keep in mind that Kvantum is considered a third-party component by KDE, so its color scheme isn’t managed by Plasma by design. Konsole, while part of KDE, handles its color scheme separately as well. Maybe they’ll unify things in the future—but for now, I’m not sure.

So in short, you’ll need to manually create or copy a dark version for both of these components :slightly_smiling_face:

Edit – Disclaimer:
Warning: I hope all this detail doesn’t accidentally spark a new obsession with theme customization :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
I take no responsibility if you end up staying up all night tweaking your setup!

Yeah, like I have no idea what these numbers mean…

Dont get me wrong, I would learn it but my brain just doesnt have the processing power to learn and study a 4th random topic intensively… Im currently super invested in Telescope stuff, space stuff and yeah the boring one… driving licence.. I dont have room in my head for this rn.

Also I have not found a single dark theme that I like to 100% (the sweet one I have is just like 85%) yours would come closer to the 100% (if i could see it properly, but the window thing looks nice apart for that small issue) so I still think you you should try to upload it as a second official version (as kvantum in that case likely for the transparentcy)
just my thought as i really like your work

@fog, I’ll reply here since this thread is for Polar Gleam and I don’t want to clutter the other one :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve added the day/night wallpaper and global theme for Polar Dusk.

Please pull or re-clone the latest code — I’ve made a few tweaks to the color scheme and Kvantum theme naming to make day/night switching work properly.
https://bitbucket.org/dirn-typo/polar-gleam/src/main/

At a high level, the main tweak was removing spaces from the color scheme name.
For the Kvantum theme, to enable automatic switching between light and dark modes, the theme name should follow this format (no spaces or hyphens):

  • ApaNama
  • ApaNamaDark

I’ve already applied these changes to my Salju/SaljuDark themes (a modded version with slightly different light colors from Polar Gleam). Honestly, I didn’t expect anyone to be interested in Polar Gleam, so I just left it as-is :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

You are the GOAT.
Thank you :smiley:

I must search more :innocent: I thought is the same theme with different name (translation said “snow” so I think polar/snow…)

You’re right — translation-wise, they’re the same. But they’re actually two different themes. Think of it like a domestic vs. international edition :winking_face_with_tongue:

Not generally a fan of light themes, but this is well executed.

Thanks @JKMooney :slightly_smiling_face:

@fog, apologies — I assumed you meant the mountain wallpaper when you asked for wallpapers. I’ve added the day/night owl wallpaper to the repo as well, just in case you want that one.

Love the theme! thanks for sharing <3
I’m not the sharpest tool, so I just have to ask: Is there a way to remove the white corner shown in the screenshot below :backhand_index_pointing_down: ? I’m using fedora, so still on Plasma 6.4.5 but looking forward to try the night/day switching in 6.5 :smiley:
