XFS has shifted its timestamp support from breaking after Year 2038 to now working up to Year 2486

Priceless :joy:

Looks like we will get it already by next week:

So unless something odd and bad happens next week, we’ll have a final
5.10 release next weekend

5.10-rc7 working fine here. No performance differences compared to 5.9.

It’s interesting - linux-mainline doesn’t boot on my laptop at all (neither rc6 and rc7). I might just have to try your 5.10 and see if that works…

Not at all? No error messages?

Not a sausage - GRUB starts to load the initial initramfs, then blank screen. Never seen this before.

Corrupted initramfs perhaps?

I did wonder that, but seems odd it would happen for two releases… I’ll dig some more at some point.

Which config are you using?

From https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux-mainline/

Do you have a log from makepkg? Also maybe compile with V=1 for more (too) verbose output.
Did you try my default config as well? Probably not going to make a huge difference, but who knows…

  • There are a number of security improvements with hardening against possible DMA attacks by external PCI Express devices, the “nosymfollow” mount option that is similar to what has been offered on BSDs for years, Linux 5.10 including a new static_call() function for helping in cases affected by Retpolines, and the ARM Spectre mitigations were rewritten as part of their “Ghostbusters” work.

Jeez…Those hackers pluggin’ PCI-E devices in you… :eyes:

A first patch for VirtualBox support for 5.10 is now available: https://www.virtualbox.org/attachment/ticket/20055/linux-5.10-r0drv-memobj-fix-r0.patch

Seems to do the job.

As always, a little self-promotion, my take on 5.10 is available here.
Comes with the usual stuff, like Steam’s futex_wait_multiple (PROTON_FSYNC), and many other things.
Tested on Skylake and Zen2.

uname -a
Linux eos-cinnamon 5.10.1-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue, 15 Dec 2020 19:49:00 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

In the testing now!

So far so good!
Knock on wood!

–edit–

Will 5.10 be called lts later on when it reaches the Stable?

I think it will take some time (several weeks at least) until Arch makes 5.10 as linux-lts. And I think Arch wants 5.11 to be the available (as linux) before making 5.10 as the lts version.
