Let's play a tune from grub?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB/Tips_and_tricks#Play_a_tune

just edit /etc/default/grub
and add a line like this two:

#super mario tune
GRUB_INIT_TUNE="1750 523 1 392 1 523 1 659 1 784 1 1047 1 784 1 415 1 523 1 622 1 831 1 622 1 831 1 1046 1 1244 1 1661 1 124>

# star wars
GRUB_INIT_TUNE="480 440 4 440 4 440 4 349 3 523 1 440 4 349 3 523 1 440 8 659 4 659 4 659 4 698 3 523 1 415 4 349 3 523 1 440>

save it and regenerate grub.cfg
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

and your boot will never be boring again :slight_smile:

No thanks! Anyway - it wouldn’t work on my system. The cheap case specs don’t include a speaker, or even a reset button! (co-opted for RGB control). Next time… NZXT?

Terrible :woozy_face: :shushing_face:

Why? I got one in the mail arriving soon, now you got me scared.

When i hear NZXT i think about water-coolers - to me was extremely bad experience (loud pump, come broken (but even when not broken still loud as crap))…

So i just assumed based on anecdotal experience about 2 times :slight_smile:

Maybe for you it will be more lucky :upside_down_face:

Basically i think that they’re trying to take market of what Corsair have once been, but both have lost quality dramatically in last ~6 years…

You have a what? arriving? It won’t be a cheap Eastern design like mine, I’m sure… They decided to drop a feature for each thing they added… - so maybe a NZXT for the next build - or even another Cooler Master - they’re ok…

Sorry, I assumed for some reason we were talking about Cases.

I ordered an NXZT H510i Case and an X63 Radiator Cooler for my new build.

Yep, that was cases originally, but i’m kinda generalizing things coz you know…
Cases are kinda also cooling-centric things as well which adds to quality etc :slight_smile:

Anyway, tell us your experience when it arrive, i wonder if it’ll go better :slight_smile:

On cooler: I’ve tried this one https://www.nzxt.com/products/kraken-x53 it was bad by my standards and faulty as well :sweat_smile:.

We were - mine is an (experimental for me) DeepCool Matrexx 70, and as mentioned, has no speaker and the reset is taken over for RGB control functions - instead of adding a switch for that! I use NZXT as an example of what I should have gotten as a case.

Welp, I’m about to sell my brand-new case since apparently the Lian Li O11 doesn’t have a speaker, and my Asus motherboard only has the connector rather than one integrated. I can just imagine hearing some classic scene chiptunes on start-up :exploding_head:

Me Too…on this DeepCool Case. I’ll try it on my other one though.

Finally, I have everything I need to program the entire Der Ring des Nibelungen as a boot tune. Sure, it will take 12 hours to reach GUI, but at least it will be the worst performance ever of this beautiful and majestic cycle of operas. Maybe that’s not the best idea ever… :sweat_smile:

A serious question though: how long can a tune like this be?

How long is a piece of string? Limited mainly by your patience I suspect… and I don’t know if it ‘takes over’ operations while playing.

Usually too short.

you can also create:

/etc/grub.d/91_tune_demo

long as you would like to play also more then one tune
