Let's have a drink together! What's in your glass today?

So I found this massive alcohol heaven near us that sells everything. I could have gotten 10x this much. I restrained the best I could.

It’s going to be a great week.

@Zircon34

It’s made by shipyard who makes my all time favorite pumpkin beer the pumpkin head ale. I had to try this.

@Stagger_Lee I see the like - the La Trappe is for you. Thanks for introducing Trappist beer to me. It’s become one of my favorite styles. Cheers.

Just some ginger tea today…

Ha, ha, this brings to my mind an old Merle Haggard song:

“Last night we had a hell raisin’ time
Nippin’ on tequila and suckin’ on limes
Sunrise chased the good time away
And good morning would have been the wrong thing to say
‘Cause the poundin’ in the top of my head
Hey didn’t leave me any too soon
I can’t say we’ve had a good morning
But babe it’s been a great afternoon”.

Good stuff… Definitely on my top 10 list.

It’s 11 am, and I’m looking after i child, so it’s Wienermelange. For those not Austrian, it’s hot chocolate, and coffee (real coffee, not american coffe).

The rest of the chocolate went into the child.

Vacation week, my step dad has been collecting moonshine from a customer in a Kentucky.

This stuff is absolutely delicious. From left to right: apple spice, watermelon, black berry, peach(my favorite), and butterscotch

I just tried an Oxbow Brewing (Portland ME) Farmhouse Pale Ale. I don’t recall ever trying anything from Oxbow before, and this piece of crap isn’t likely to make me try anything else from them.

Farmhouse Ale my ass. It’s a hipster IPA, pure and simple. Not a trace of the farmhouse style, not a trace. No funk, no complexity, just tons of piney hops, and that’s all.

Funny thing is, I just looked up some reviews of it from BeerAdvocate, and they all describe something very different than what I’ve got here. The discrepancy is so huge that I wonder if there was a bottling error, because what I have here is clearly, 100% an IPA.

I am confused. And disappointed. But mostly confused. :man_shrugging:

I’m confused enough to contact the brewery and ask if there was some kind of mix-up in a batch.

I’m not a big IPA fan at all. That sounds even more disappointing because you weren’t expecting it.

Today on my list is my favorite local beer growing up and one of my favorites ever

The story goes that years ago when you used to go to the pub you could drink all the beer you wanted and was one penny per pint. But really good beer would cost as much as ten pennies.

Ten Penny Ale is a local legend where I’m from. It’s a dirty cloudy red ale, and it’s just fantastic. A few years ago the old man that brewed it closed down, I guess his kids didn’t want to take over. I guess a year ago or so, someone bought the whole place, recipes and all. So they are back!!!

Yeah, I don’t care for IPAs that much, and I cannot stand hipster IPAs - which I define as all hops and nothing else, probably brewed by (or for) people who fondly remember drinking Rolling Rock as a broke college student, and are trying to recreate that with a microbrew.

And, as you note, when you are expecting something very different - yikes.

The brewery is in my neck of the woods, and I fully intend to visit them in the next few days with the remainder of my 6-pack and figure out if there was some kind of mix-up at the bottling facility, or if they actually have the balls to call this a farmhouse ale.

Again, I will point out that the reviews on BeerAdvocate - which come from a number of people - all describe something very, very different from what I’m tasting. Like, not even remotely close.

Today I raise my glass to celebrate the 247th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

20221110_124319

The Marine Corps was founded in 1775 on November 10th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - fittingly, in a tavern.

I did not serve in the armed forces. One of my very, very dear friends is a Marine, and on top of that I have the utmost respect for those who served.

If you are so inclined, raise a glass for the Marines today :beers:.

Semper Fi! Thank you. I raised several Chang beers tonight in honor of not only the Birthday, but those Marines who are not with us anymore. I will never forget you.

I was recently back home for about 13 days for the first time in 9 years. Still jet-lagged a week after returning! My favourite beer of the trip, and I had quite a few beers, was this…
