Laptop doesn't wake up on lid open or key presses after lid was shut

So, anytime I shut the lid, whether on the LTS kernel or the default, if I open the lid back up it fails to wake. Instead just a black screen and not much else. Having been away from using linux as a main OS for a few years I’m kinda at a loss on where to start looking to troubleshoot.

what I can say from own experience some of the new laptops got a new sleep mode thanks to windows, something similar to smart phones, which seems to screw up the sleep mode and lead to battery drain. Depends on laptop model.

Bios deep sleep windows strikes again

I was wondering, how do you deal with the deep sleep issue in bios? Mine is a newer lenovo laptop too so I’ll see if that’s what it is sometime today probably. Appreciate the help, gives me a major starting point to find out what’s going on.

perhaps you should follow @Zircon34’s advice and post information about your system so we can actually help. What DE are you using? What GPU? You give us no information about the system other than a newer Lenovo.
