Same here, since 2 weeks.
I would say Wayland can come.
I have been running EOS in Wayland for almost a year now with almost no issues just some minor login in to black screen.
But I just run konsol and then yay to update and restart with ârebootâ and back to normal.
I still donât know why itâs happening but oh wellâŚ
Hopefully thy have fixed it in Plasma 6.
I just need nvidia-control-settings and green with envy to work. Wayland works fine, but I canât control power limit or fans or really anything. I have some scripts to work around some of it, but itâs a hassle. The default bios fan curves seems to be set to never ramp up. My 3080 will simply heat up until it thermal throttles.
time went so fast
it would be as unstable as plasma 5 i am sure

Long answer
I had a try on a test Arch-plasma install.
Before upgrading I removed plasma-wayland-session and all its dependencies.
I logged out and as expected I had no Wayland option in the login screen.
I did the upgrade to plasma 6.
After reboot, Wayland session was the default login session with X11 as option in the dropdown menu at the bottom left of the login screen.
PS.
I had a test Arch-plasma install, because: My Every New Yearâs Resolution
Hopefully remote desktop clients will soon support Wayland. Itâs the only thing I miss from Xorg.
Thanks for double-checking! So basically, the worst fears have come true
Guess Iâd better wait and update after the first point release sees the light. Just in case
Iâm not 100% sure exactly what you have in mind or your specific needs, but are you aware of the existence of waypipe ?
Iâve used realVNC before cause itâs fairly simple with all the features I needed. It only shows black screen with wayland.
I donât see a bunch of wm leaving x anytime soon. You should be good for a very long time.
I donât understand why people are concerned about Wayland due to plasma 6.
If you prefer X11, you just need to select it in a dropdown before you login the first time.
On the other hand, if you want to use Wayland, donât change the option.
Also, you can switch at any time if you change your mind.
The only difference is that the default setting is changing.
In that case (of using specific remote desktop software) I can definitely see your point.
I expect that indeed it will be some time before wide support for remote desktop under Wayland, if at all.
From reading relevant issues here and there, my (limited) understanding is that remote access in its traditional form isnât very compatible with Waylandâs strict security ideals, which is obviously an issueâŚ
But if you are open to trying other software, there might be some that have already worked on it (potentially needing sudo rights for hacky workarounds).
For example I believe rustdesk was working on experimental wayland support (though I havenât followed its development and not aware of its current status).
trueâŚ
but I donât understand why people are concerned about plasma 6.
for some i guess
As Wayland is feature-deficient, I require Xorg for my daily workflow. Also, while this does not affect me personally, many people have older NoVidea GPUs which do not work well with Wayland.
For now.
Even though Plasma 6 will continue to support Xorg, there are plans to eventually drop Xorg support (and this is to happen before Plasma 7), and focus exclusively on Wayland. At that moment, Plasma will become unusable for me, at least until they extend the Wayand protocol to support the functionality I require, which I donât expect to ever happen.
Not wanting to get caught unprepared, I have begun switching to dwm
. It works fine alongside Plasma, and I can continue to use most of the KDE software I am used to, most importantly, Konsole and Kate, but also Dolphin. If at some point, Kate stops working with Xorg, that will force me to use Emacs more â which is good, but Iâm not enjoying it, at present.
Itâs working well for me in testing, no problems yet. It just doesnât recognize the synaptics touchpad in the Xorg settings so I had to create a config file and it works fine
I actually installed Neon on a little partition before trying the testing repositories on Arch. Neon was an unmitigated disaster but Iâm sure theyâll have that fixed soon
I just tried Neon this morning in a VM.
There were, shall we say, a few glitchesâŚitâs already been nuked. Not an impressive release. But I was able to test my theme and window decorations, and they work with no problems in Plasma 6. Thatâs all I was concerned about.
