KDE Plasma 6.3 Beta Release

KDE announced the release of Plasma 6.3 Beta today.

The main change listed so far is that Spectacle will now be part of Plasma rather than KDE Gear, but there’s a full changelog here - https://kde.org/announcements/changelogs/plasma/6/6.2.5-6.2.90/

EDIT It’s not now in the Arch KDE-Unstable repo yet.

Final release is planned for 11th February.

Plasma’s “Nexus” Wallpaper is the first one that I’ve left as default and not changed, it’s really, really nice!

Well as is traditional for me. Time for me to test this on my main system. I just wish that Arch didn’t always couple it with beta Qt releases.

Edit: So far, so good. Even with Qt 6.9beta, it actually feels smoother as well. Much better than the last release paired with Qt 6.8 beta.

If you’re feeling brave, it’s now in the Arch KDE-unstable repo.

It’s Friday night so hold my beer while I get my KDE.

Yes, I am knowingly and willfully installing unstable software on my main production machine.

Just booted back into it and it seems to be working fine so far. Haven’t noticed any bugs/crashes/stuttering (huge relief after the Protonmail Bridge issue last time around).

Edit: Plasma 6.3 Beta 2 so that’s probably why it’s so stable. The official tar date is the week after next.

Yeah, all the post 6.0 betas have been stable for me. Usually an improvement even.

The default wallpaper for 6.3 is very EOS-purply. :ok_hand:

There are so many Quality of Life improvements coming to 6.3 and 6.4, having lived through KDE3, Plasma 4, and finally arrived to where we are now, 6.x feels so freaking good. I couldn’t imagine using anything else now for a desktop environment. The tools, apps, they all work so well.
