KDE newbie needs some tips

Hi, I am new to KDE Plasma, sort of. I understand that the customization options are almost endless. I have it set up the way it works fine but I would like to add some more things that would make it easier for me to use.

I have set some window/workspace functions to the screen edges. Things like overview, grid and things like that. I wanted to ask if the same things can be done with keyboard shortcuts instead of moving the cursor to the edges of the screen

Yes, of course.

system settings->keyboard->shortcuts

Most of those things will already have shortcuts which will be displayed there.

You can also add new shortcuts to almost anything though including custom scripts.

Maybe you wanna take a look in >systemsettings>keyboard>shortcuts. There is the possibility to assign many commands

Sorry, screenshot in german

Thanks a lot @dalto and @swh!

I am still a bit lost among all the settings options in Plasma. I will look at this and try.

Sure, try it and ask if you have any questions. If I can help you with that, anytime

Used GNOME before KDE ?

Yes, used to shortcuts

I have assigned keyboard shortcuts for almost all the the thing I did with screen edges.
Only one I could not find in the shortcuts for kwin: Present Windows - Current Application

You have to add shortcuts that are not preset yourself. Whether via an application or a script

Thanks! I haven’t found yet what command launches that kwin function so I don’t know what to put in the shortcut.

Toggle Present Windows - (Windows Class)

I am not sure why it is called different things on those two different screens though.

This was the one!

I saw that also but I didn’t understand what it referred to. I let it be for not messing up anything.

Thank you so much @dalto! I’ve got now all the functions assigned to screen edges now with shortcuts.

Since where talking about KDE i really don’t want to highjack the thread, but why is it not possible in kde 6 to give the terminal some transparency? I watched a video online and i saw i setting in kde 5 which allowed it but the setting is gone in 6. Anyone has an idea ?

It’s not gone, it never left…

Konsole Settings > Edit Profile > Appearance > Color Scheme & Font

That is nice! Thank you for posting!

The appearance tab is not on my system. That’s why i asked the question or i am missing something. Will check again tommorow.

Make a new profile and the appearance tab appears

Click APPEARANCE then EDIT on the right. It will bring up transparency setting as seen in the image below.

Yes. But with only the built-in profile there is no APPEARANCE tab as mentioned @MichelN
It appears after you create a new profile.
